Dizzines, Diet related?

Recently I am experiencing dizziness. I am not sure if it is related to me dieting or not. Within two months I have done well lost 10+ pounds. In January I stopped drinking pop. Other then that I eat whatever I want, not to worried about going over on my calories I know it will happen. I am "suppose" to be eating 1200 calories..

Dehydration, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, undereating, low iron levels

Could be any of these amongst others. Go have a chat to your doctor and get some blood work done just to be sure
  • 1200 seems a bit low. How active are you on a daily basis? How much water do you drink in a day?

I felt light headed and dizzy when I first gave up pop and sugary juices and foods, my body was so used to running on the sugar. But I also found I wasn't eating nearly enough calories or keeping hydrated enough.

I have a back injury so I really am not very active, most I do is walk across campus, or physical therapy. I just don't know why all of a suddon this is happening.

Please go see your doctor. It could be anything, and maybe not even diet related.

Also, what do you mean when you say you are supposed to eat 1200? Are you eating less than this?

This is very odd for me. One hour after eating an apple my sugar is 171. took it again just down and my sugar was 151. I am never this high after eating usually in 90-120.

To be on the safe side I think it's best you see your doctor... just to make sure. No harm in putting everything on hold until you get a good check up. Hope all goes well.

Are you diabetic? Why would you be taking your sugar count?

I am not diabetic but have major family history of it and my family and pcp use to be concerned that I was Hypoglycemic. My sugar use to drop to around 40 when I was in high school (in college now) so ever since I keep a meter close by just incase.

I've been having some dizziness lately too, and constant headaches. Definitely go see your doctor. Mine actually thinks I'm not getting enough sodium, which is the opposite of what people are normally told. But he tested my blood pressure and also did blood tests for all my important minerals etc. We've concluded that it's due to a combination of stress and dehydration.

I'm drinking at least one thing of hydralyte every day now to combat the dehydration, which has actually helped the headaches and dizziness quite a bit, but not much we can do about the stress unfortunately (I'm finishing up my PhD AND we're psychotically busy at work = insane stress and my brain is working way too hard poor thing :( ). He went so far as to point out that most people in my position would be using food as a sedative. Oh yeah. But he also said to remember that when you're losing weight your body is literally eating itself, so you could easily be deficient in some important nutrient.

Long winded, but bottom line = see your dr asap. Could be something nasty or it could be as simple as drinking some hydralyte. Either way, you need to know.

    :)
