iphone 5 and Polar FT7

I got a FT7 (and have googled and went on the Polar website, youtube and looked everywhere I can about this and can't figure it out)

I have an iphone 5 and have the bluetooth on and it still wont pick up the chest strap, but the watch itself picks up my HR.

Does the FT7 not work with an iphone 5?

Also, it had me download "polar beats" to my macbook and it shows that its downloaded to my itunes but it will not open!!

I am not very tech friendly, but I have never had so much trouble. Can the Polar HRM link up to myfitness pal up to load the calories?

This may have been asked already but I have been searching and searching and cant find anything.

Any info would be greatly appreciated before I stomp on it.

  • also I did spin this am, the bike says 23 miles in 1hr and has a spot for wireless HRM, its a "star Trac" monitor on the bike and I didn't know how to connect it to the HRM. I had to keep checking the watch. the room is super dark so I kept having to light up the watch to see my heart rate.

    any info?

I've never seen anywhere that you could link the FT7 to your phone. I have an iphone 5 as well and never even attempted to link my FT7 to it. I just create new exercises on MFP and manually enter the calories burned according to the HRM.
I don't think the FT7 can link to any exercise equipment or anything unless you buy something specific from Polar (can't remember what it's called but it's the transmitter to load your exercises to your computer)....

I have two of the FT7's purchased a bit ago. From what I remember -- and this may have changed now that it has been over a year, there was a different chest strap package you need to purchase to get it to sync with your iphone. If you're just using the one it came with (I have the h1 and h2 transmitter sets), then no. If you purchased the Polar H7 Bluetooth Smart Chest Transmitter, yes. And your FT7 does not sync with MFP. I just make and save my own personal workouts using the HRM so they're always there to choose from where I just update the cals burned. When I'm using gym equipment that shows HR, it'll show up automatically without needing to grab onto the sensor handles since you have your transmitter on, but that's just a convenience of not having to look down at your watch.

Edit: On the spin bike, there is nothing to connect. Those will usually just display your correct HR from your transmitter - but will not show up accurately or at all if the batteries are low on the bike. Again, convenience of not needing to glance at your watch while riding.
  • ok thanks.

A lot of people in my spin class have their HR on the spin bike monitor. Not sure what HRM they are using though. The instructor is always yelling out where our HR should be and I have to keep lighting up my watch to check the screen.

I'll have to ask what they are using.

I used my polar HRM and entered into My fitness pal app. the app was real close for both my spin class (60min, 21.5 miles, and 446 cal) and my pilates class after (55min, 146 calories) both time MFP app was off by just a few calories.

    so its close enough.
  • ana- not sure why but it didn't come up on the spin bike. lots of the bike do say 'low battery' for HRM, but when i started riding it did blink like it was searching it out, but never came up.

and my Polar Beats app just keeps saying searching on my iphone even though the blue tooth is enabled. and when I downloaded Polar beats to my macbook, it says its in itune but I cant open it!

I read many reviews and it seemed like many people liked the Polar FT7, but maybe I should get something else?

    So many problems!

    thanks though.
