Calling all runners -- HALP!

About 6 weeks ago I was running after a tough weight training session and OW! My calf muscle tightened up into a knot and I spent the next couple of days limping. I've been stretching after every run but I still get a twinge now and then. Today, after no pain at all for several days, I hopped on my treadmill and after five minutes, OW!! It happened again! I can barely walk. Why is this happening? How do I make it stop? How do I prevent it?

Thanks in advance :)

    This may be helpful......

you may also want to invest in a foam roller to use in addition to your stretching routine.

Thank you, that site is very helpful. I use one of those foam things at the gym but not every day. I guess I'll just have to be more diligent about stretching and massage.

Have you tried eating a banana before going running? If it is a lack of potassium, then the banana should fix it. Also, warm up slowly, when our muscles are warm, you can push harder.

No, but I'll try that next time. I'm guilty of not warming up....once I've decided to go on a run, I'm very impatient to get started.

So now I have four new things to do: 1. banana 2. warm up 3. stretch more 4. foam thingie. Thank you! :)

Adding a banana a day has helped me immensely. I would get a leg cramp walking to the car.
