New to this...please help!!! :((

Hi everyone,

I'm new to all this & need some help!
I'm a 26yr old female, 5ft4 & weighing 12st 4 at present. I've done the usual diets before, mainly weight watchers which helped me lose 2 stone but slowly the weight has creeped back on.
I've never exercised before to lose weight & whilst I'm ashamed to admit that I'm proud of myself for wanting to now make a change & sort not only my weight but my fitness levels and general health.
I ideally want to lose 2 stone minimum & the only way I'm doing it is with healthy food and exercise but I need some advice!

I've worked out my 'resting calories' are roughly 2300, and with exercise for a loss I should approximately eat 1700 a day to see a loss. I go to FBX on a wed, metafit on a fri, boxing on a sat & try to swim in between where possible.

Firstly I'm not sure if my calorie intake is enough and secondly I'm not sure if my exercise is enough to see any change or wether I should be doing anything different? I only started exercising last week but in that week the scales say I've put on 3lbs!

I suffer IBS so I do tend to bloat which has a huge effect on the scales but I'm at the point of frustration with my weight that I would love to see some results! I'm just very unsure of what kind of foods I should be eating. I've ordered a clean diet cook book which I'm hoping will give me more ideas and info!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

  • My suggestion is to look at this as a Life Style Change NOT a diet. If you really want to get rid of the lbs then you must change your lifestyle. It is also important to remember that you didn't gain all the weight overnight so it will take more than just a week to see results.
    Have you taken your measurements before you started? I know that the weeks I do not lose any weight I take measurements and I may have lost a few inches instead. That is still progress. I have been doing this for almost 2 years now and have lost a total of 34 lbs, but I have also gained and then lost and gained again. You can't lose faith in something you just started - give it your all if you are really that serious.

    Not sure what you mean by resting calories...if you mean bmr...@ 2300...ah probably not.

    TDEE maybe but not likely...

    I just ran your numbers on scooby for TDEE at 1-3hours a week and it gave the following:

    BMR=1558
    TDEE=2143
    TDEE-20%=1714

    1700 should be high enough...I eat on average 1700 a day and lose.

    The 3lbs is water retention from a new exercise routine.

    Only advice is to ensure you maintain exercise if you are eating 1700 day...
    Buy a food scale to ensure intake is correct and weigh all food, measure liquids.

    Think I got the figures wrong lol! I don't exercise every day, on the days I don't would it be advisable to drop calories? I've never been used to eating as many hence why I probably don't lose any weight! Would it be useful to work out more?
    Thanks for all the advice, I'm absolutely determined to make a change this time for good!
