Ate something I should not have!

I have been so good all week. Stayed under calories and exercised. Today when I was out I got something called "cajun mix" and snacked on it while I was at the park with my kids. I ate almost the whole container. It seemed okay- nuts and sesame sticks. Now I see I consumed almost 1000 calories with this alone!! (I am only supposed to have 1200) Does this ruin all my work for the week now? Every half hour workout only burns 150-200 calories for me so there is no way I can work it completely off. I have to clean today too because we are having company tomorrow. Maybe this will burn some calories? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

It's a lot. But, it's not the end of the world. Log it and move on. Eat a healthy supper and then eat well tomorrow. Things happen in real life. Spread out over a week it's only about 142 cals a day. Still below your TDEE, I'm sure.

If you did it every day - it might be a problem. But you obviously don't. Move on!

It's over you log it and move on... and since you eat so low calorie (which you should be over 1200 calories but that's another topic) you will still be at a deficit for the week. But you might want to look at raising your calories so you are only at a reasonable deficit for less than 50 lbs to lose you should be aiming for .5 to 1 lb a week.
  • I do this with a lot of things like peanut butter, nut butters in general, and granola. So I buy powdered pb now and limit the sunflower seed butter to a tbsp per day. If I had that cajun mix, I'm sure I would do the same.

Try to buy things that can be individually packaged or you could pour them into servings when you buy it. I would not limit yourself food the next day or try to make up for it. Just think of it as a learning lesson and move on.

From personal experience, when I even add in extra cardio to make up for extra cals, I almost always end up eating extra from being too tired and hungry either late at night or the next day. So I just try to move on and start fresh the next day.

Phew, I thought by "ate something you shouldn't have" you meant magnets or something with lead in it.

Hope you enjoyed the snack mix. Move on. Don't punish yourself. It happens.

  • Hi there!

I don't think you have undone all your hard work but I would and have learned from professional trainers to always have protein if you are indulging in carbs. It helps! You really want to make sure you are having protein when you eat carbs. Remember to just get back on the right track and maybe have a little less tonight than you would have chosen. Drink lots of water too!

This^^^ just log it and move on.you'll be fine and since your calories are set low anyway, you'll probably still be at a deficit anyway

Try to look at it in the big picture. Will it matter in a week/month/year? Nah.

I know the feeling, though. Recently I had some Swedish chicken and potato hash and the database had the wrong calories in the log, I ended up eating way more than I planned, I was so mad.

It really wasn't a big deal, though.

    1. one day won't destroy your weight loss
    2. 1200 is probably way too little to be eating each day

    This.
Very few people need to be on the bare minimum of 1200 to lose weight. For most, a 2Ib a week loss is too drastic anyway and is largely unsustainable.
I am not surprised you ate the whole bag. I would probably be eating my own arm on 1200 a day. I lose weight quite well on 1500-1700 NET. And I am not a heavyweight.
  • Log it, eat when hungry, stop when full, it's all about portions. I do not believe in 'ate something I should not have!' because there is nothing in the world I should not eat or deprive myself of. I eat what I want, when I want it and portion control is key. But, lesson learned to assess the bag nutritional content prior to purchase to see if it's worth it. Every damn time I'm at the grocery store check out the grape flavored vine are flirting with me, and I mean flirting, but, I look at the nutritional content and says it's not worth it, therefore taking away my craving for it. But you snack did sound really good
