Let's talk shoes

I've always pretty much worn sneakers. This Winter I had to buy some warm boots, and with all my walking it destroyed the insole and the extra insoles I bought... in the Summer I wear New Balance sandals, which are awesome, but I'd like some casual shoes that are comfortable to walk in (and will last more than a couple months). I have some Clarks with a small heel but I don't think I'd want to walk 3 miles in them.

Suggestions?

    For exercise or causal wear?

If for exercise, I recommend going to a reputable store that sells athletic shoes and get fitted for the right pair for your body style and gate.

If for casual wear, I recommend clarks or merrells. They can be pricy but worth every penny as our shoes are the most important thing we put on our body.

I wear new balance and birkenstocks if i'm going to be walking more than just shopping etc.

My sister loves Keen, and Merrells they have shoe types and sandal-esque.

I just don't buy cheap bc you get what you pay for and I like to take care of my feet.

I can't pull off heels, but then I'm not in NYC; just need something I can kick the road apples off the country roads.

15.00 Starter sneakers from walmart with 500.00 insoles. I do have another pair of some brand i got that were expensive but since i gained the weight they don't fit right again. Plus my insoles don't fit.

I'm in dress shoes, athletic shoes or barefoot, and for whatever reason all my shoes seem to last forever.

Merrell, the company that makes the natural/minimalist running shoes, also makes a line of casual shoes.

Sperry Top-Sider - Angelfish style. Walked all over DC in them last summer.

I love Fitflops in summer! I was never one to wear flip flops but these shoes are so comfy. They are pricey but worth it and are starting to have some nicer looking ones.

When I was working in the lab and on my feet for hours, I loved the Dansko shoes. They go with anything, have great arch support, and are fabulous for walking or standing!

Wait. Are you talking about 1 pair of shoes? My husband would LOVE you!

Depends on what kind of shoes you're talking about? I spend most of my summer in Volatile sandals of some sort, I have 4 or maybe 5 pair in different colors.

I bought my first new pair of everyday shoes this winter. They were the Keen brand. I love them. First time wearing the brand and I will be looking at their saddles for summer.

Different activities engage different mechanics. Walking shoes focus on flexibility through the entire sole. Running/jogging shoes focus more on impact on the heel. If you are going to the gym and working out on the floor (Weights) or using anything other than the Stairmaster or Treadmill, you should be using neither. Instead go for a flat sole shoe for proper balance.

I find Adidas and New Balance offer the best quality running/walking shoes, and converse offers the best flat sole.

Find a good store that can help you identify your pronation type. Then you can find a shoe that will last longer.
