Fitbit tracker calories in Body Pump class

While wearing my fitbit tracker in Body Pump class it's only estimating I burned 199 calories. Other websites state at least 500-800 calories are burned in this class. When entering your calories burned in myfitness pal should I just enter an estimate like 500 instead of the 199 tracked by Fitbit? Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks!

Fitbit is only designed for walking type activities. You need a HRM for things like body pump.

If you can't get a HRM I would go with a more modest estimation than 500. There are so many variables of course, depends on the release, how much you are lifting (especially in tracks 2, 4 and 7) and so I can burn anything between 250 to 400. I would usually only burn more if I had done a class beforehand, which I do sometimes.
  • Thanks! I'll look into a HRM.

  • I use my HRM and I lost approx 470cals during pump last night. In saying that it was only my second pump and ihave really light weights!!!

Wow I'm shocked that you burn that much! I just started adding pump to my other classes and I was guessing I burned 200-300 calories MAYBE (my weights are really light still). I guess I should dig up my trusty HRM?
  • I wear a HRM in body pump and burn max of 200-250 cals in a 45 minute class!

I weigh 130lbs and although I don't lift the heaviest weights in the room, I work pretty hard.

I would advise you to be quite conservative on your estimates for body pump; it is a great conditioning workout, but as it's not cardio based so it doesn't burn a lot of calories.

Can anyone recommend a cheapish HRM?
