In short, i hurt my back lifting my daughter to safety during a seizure.. i was stuck lying on the sofa for months waiting to see the surgeon, who said he would have me in for surgery that day except ive piled on weight and now obese.. lose the weight.
So I tried few well known diets..found one that worked for me (diet chef 1200cals) I lost 35lbs, gained 14 back over christmas when i came off the diet , Ive been back on it for 10 weeks, a low sodium sugar and fat diet.. ive lost 27lb and went to the docs for an MOT and the all clear to exercise again.. They were happy ive lost weight almost enough to have surgery and refered me to physio so i dont try to jump into anything like INSANITY again and end up laid up again :P i was kinda happy with that ..
BUT docs rang me straight back.. I had to go back in urgently for more bloods and tests all my bloods were high.. Diabetes, thyroid and white cell count
I opted to try to reverse the diabetes before they give me meds for the rest of my life.. I need to work on and look at where im going wrong with my food etc.
I dont know whats going on with the thyroid etc. theyre doing more tests and they clammed up when i questioned what it could be... sooo im not gonna think about that right now.
Id like to apologise to all the friends i had on here, im sorry i deleted you i sort of gave up and thought why bother when it could all be a waste of time, but ive got my head around it now. Feel free to add me back , i understand if you dont .

Aww, sorry to hear about this!
I believe what a lot of people try to reverse is prediabetes. Since you have already been diagnosed with a medical condition , I would suggest going on any medication given to you by your medical team. What you can then do with them is work on being able to no longer need the medication. Diabetes is pretty serious stuff. People have fairly serious attacks, have to have limbs removed or die if their condition is not well maintained. Any steps you take with regards to treatment - even diet related, please work with your medical team0 -
Hi thanks for replying, they said my diabetes bloods result is high and gave me the option to try to reverse it before putting me on meds, so that must be prediabetes then if theres no reversing a diagnoses of diabetes?? ill have to clarify that next week when i have more bloods done.0

They just told you to try to reverse it without any information or flyers on what that might entail?0

What about counting calories, making sure you follow your doctor's advice when it comes to what you eat, and using this website the way it was designed?0

As for how to lose the weight properly this time, read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants0 -

Please, please, for your health's sake do go only to proven websites... such as PubMed.gov, Highwire.org (Stanford University) or MayoClinic.org, CanadianHealthNetwork.ca, MedScape.com (latest research papers for health professionals and their Continuing Education Credits.)
I'd hate to see anything bad happen due to incorrect 'information' looking to sell you a product or lifestyle.0 -
I was diabetic with both of my pregnancies and both my Doctors and Midwives agreed that if I don't do the following I could guarantee becoming Type 2 diabetic within 10 years. I am not overweight, although I did have about 10 lbs of extra weight before pregnancy, I am quite active and I ate well. So for me, I did not have to take insulin, I was able to control it through diet and exercise and now my blood sugar seems quite good. Here's what I did
-Cut out refined carbs and sugar
- Ate foods low on the glycemic index
-Short duration of exercise after each meal
-Yoga and meditation
-Ate small frequent meals throughout the day (3 meals and 2 snacks)
Basically this was what was recommended to me by the nurses at the Pregnancy and Diabetes clinic. It may not be the same for you but it's worth looking into some of these as options. If you can work with a Naturopath and Dietitian to help you. Start by focusing on whole foods like brown rice, quinoa and oats, stay away from refined sugars and carbs, period. Even now, I do not eat either of these foods except on special occasions. I focus on a diet that is low grains, high in lean protein, fruits , vegetables and healthy fats. Aim to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks, eat every 2-3 hours to help keep your blood sugar stable.
As for exercise when I was pregnant that was different, I found an elliptical on Kijiji for free and would either go for a walk or do 20min on the elliptical after my meals, don't sit after you eat. Even a 20 min walk will help your blood sugar. Do things like Yoga and meditation to help with stress.
I'm no Doctor and above all you need to be working with the care of your health care provider, this is only my own experience. I hope that it can help you. Good luck0 -
Diabetes, prediabetes can only be managed, not reversed. You can potentially adjust your diet, lose weight, and get and keep your blood sugars within normal range, but you haven't reversed it- only managed it. It will be lifelong. See if there are diabetes classes in the community (great for support, learning, and recipes). Call your insurance company and see what is available. Maybe you can be referred to physical therapy for exercises that will improve your back and advise what activities you should be doing. Be your own advocate.....
Get your blood sugars managed immediately and reconsider the medications. You can always come off them if your condition warrants it.
Your thyroid may actually be key in all of this- when that is corrected/treated/managed- it may get you back on track with energy, metabolism, etc.....
Good luck and let us know how you are doing!0 -

Reducing carbs and daily exercise are key to managing diabetes. As a starting point, I'd suggest no more than 45gm carbs per meal and 15gm for snacks. If you can go lower than that, then fantastic! Definitely ask to talk to a diabetes educator or dietician to get a plan tailored to your needs. Some folks need to be at a much lower level. I average around 100-110gm per day.
You want to have protein with your carbs to help slow down digestion too. For example, peanut butter with apple slices or half a banana, cheese with a few crackers. Greek yogurt is great, just watch the carbs, some have a lot more sugar added than others.
I love mission carb control tortilla wraps instead of bread, it has a lot of fiber and protein in it. Eggs are another great option.
For a visual rule of thumb, divide your plate into 4 sections. One half should be fruits and veggies, a quarter protein and a quarter carbs. I was diagnosed with the same in December and am a RN, so pop me a message if you want to chat more.0 -
I ate white foods flour sugar processed fried fast foods into diabetes. Now I follow dr. Joel fuhrman eat for nutrition nutritian diet of bitter greens collards kale turnip greens water cress onions mushrooms beans berries and seeds. I am am shocked at how HAPPY and healthy I feel when I eat like this. I also walk 24 mile and 80 stairs weekly. Stop this diseases' progression now while it's easier to loose weight. Before you grow a mustache and beard. Before you loose limbs and organs.0
