Best Exercise To Lose Weight

Is running the best to do to lose the weight? Or is there better things to do to get cardio in?

The best exercise to lose weight is the one that you like enough to do regularly and intensely. There is also a lot of benefit in variety; with in doing both strength training and cardio, and with doing various types of cardio.

Whatever exercise you will enjoy enough that you can keep it up for the longterm.
For me, it was cycling that worked best. I love cycling and getting out into the air, and actually going somewhere, so that keeps my on my bike. For others, it is weight training combined with running. For some, it is boxing, which I also delved into. You might even just like to do a variety of things to cover as many aspects of fitness as possible. At one point, I was doing circuits, boxing, martial arts fitness, weights, step and elliptical.

To lose weight, you just have to eat fewer calories than your body requires to maintain its current weight.
Calorie deficit for weight loss, exercise for fitness.

The best exercises you can do are the ones you enjoy doing.

I honestly haven't done a whole lot of cardio because I don't particularly like it. I run a mile 3 times a week as a warm up for lifting, but it doesn't burn that many calories. I walk my dogs, and I ride several miles at a time on my bike when the weather is warm. I also do circuit training, which includes a bit of traditional cardio.

To burn more calories during a workout, the intensity is much more important than the type of exercise you do or how long you do it for.

I enjoy doing primarily elliptical going at about a 75 % intensity for 1 hour. I've been doing it for about 8 months injury free and while no longer breathless, i'm pretty bonked by the end. Use a variable interval program like calorie or fat burn intervals and play games with it- all out for a few minutes, cruise the next 2, hands free intervals, etc. Keeps it from being boring. On that note, i try to mix in a day of treadmill long runs or speed intervals. Once in a while i'll do an outdoor run to check my "real" endurance. Have lost about 60 lbs in 8 months but 12 of that happened within last 3 weeks due to much better eating due to MFP tracking. Really excited to see better results!

Swimming works awfully well for me. I do lap and aqua aerobics that works a lot on the core. I do power walks too, but I don't like them as much as swimming.

This. Find something you love to do, so that you would do it regardless of wanting to lies weight and where you'd hate to not do it.

Personally, I take Zumba classes once or twice a week (I hate to miss a week-- I need my Zumba!) and when the weather is nice I ride my bike. I also swim. Running burns a lot of calories, but I hate it and it makes my kneed hurt, so I don't do it. The calorie burn doesn't transform something I hate into something I can it want to do regularly.

For weight training, I take body pump. For strength and flexibility, I take Pilates and iyengar yoga classes. All of these classes I enjoy enough that it is easy for me to keep going.

When I met with a personal trainer recently he asked me what my goals were. When I mentioned losing weight, he said, "I can make anyone stronger and more fit. But if you want to lose weight, I can't help you, because I'm not in your fridge." :)

In regard to weight loss, high intensity intervals have been shown to be superior to steady state cardio. So running is fine, but you'll want to do intervals. If you're really motivated you can start with sets of intervals, and then do some steady state cardio at the end.

Resistance training is also very effective, especially when performed in a circuit training fashion with short rest periods.

I do HIIT and cardio in the morning before breakfast. :) Look these routines up and you will find more info on it.

    None.

Get the idea that working out is going to help you lose weight. In the long run it will be a lot better if eating is to lose weight and working out is to be awesome.

Weight loss is 90% diet, how ever you can get fit and increase your metabolism with some cardio and weight training. Faster metabolism means more cals burned even on the couch.

    OP. According to your profile:

"Hello, my name is ****. I am currently trying to cut my at, get muscle and get more muscle mass."

There is really only one thing you should be working on if this is your goal, and its not running.

Do a search for starting strength, or strong lifts 5x5.

It kind if sounds like you don't like running. Maybe try a couple different things. Ride a bike, try the row machine or take a HIIT class. I like to run because I can burn a high rate of calories (at least more than walking) and I can get lost in my music. The scenery isn't so great since it's cold and I'm using the treadmill, but I digress. The point is find what you like. I like weight lifting because lean gorgeous muscles are my goal, so maybe mix up some weight lifting followed by some random cardio (jump rope, stepper, dead man pulls, etc). Good luck and have fun! :drinker:
