Just Need a Reminder and Motivation Boost

I have always been able to start a workout program and drop 8-10lbs the first month, then steadily about 1lb a week until I get bored with it or get to a weight I am ok with. After doing 4 big musicals/show back to back to back to back the last year (stress eating and poor quick food choices), and getting into a new relationship in which we were going out to eat and drinking all the time and I wasn't watching what I ate at all, I gained 20+ lbs in a year.

I know slow and steady wins the race, and I have a different feeling this time, that I really want to make a full life change, and not just diet and workout until I get to a point and quit for a while, then have to do it again. I am currently in week 4 of Les Mills Combat (which I did before and lost like 16lbs in 60 days). I made the mistake of getting on the scale this morning, and I am actually up a pound from where I started. I know, big mistake and don't get caught up in the scale, and only a lb, likely water weight from too much sodium yesterday. I have noticed a bit of a change already in my stomach and waist, and the scale is not indicative of that.......it's just bumming me out. Just need a little motivational boost if you can give me one. I still did my Combat 60 this morning, even though after getting on the scale all I wanted to do was crawl back into bed, so I have a victory there. Just need a little extra boost to get me over these doldrums. Thanks!

Happy to help! It sounds like you already know all the reasons this 1 pound doesn't matter, so I won't go on about them. You seem to be on a good path, with a great attitude about developing a healthy lifestyle. WAY TO GO! Be proud of yourself! (The rest will come!)

About 3 years ago I made the decision to get off the rollercoaster and I was only going to go in one direction with my weight (down). I would get to a comfortable place and stop and go back to old bad habits. I now know I can live life without those. I can go out and enjoy within moderation and still maintain or lose.
Think long term (the rest of your life). Are you making changes that you can live with for a long time? Are you ready to lose the weight and to never find it again? I started by tackling one thing at a time. I always enjoyed and ate plenty of vegetables but until started logging did not realize haw huge my portions really were. I gave up soda and slowly started adjusting my eating until I was comfortable. Then I slowly incorporated exercise. This I am still battling with staying on track.
You can do this. Good luck.

To make this a true lifestyle change you have to realize that it has to be about more than just the weight. Losing weight is great...but really, this has to be about your overall health and well being and being at a healthy BF% is only one part of that. You have to realize that your nutrition and fitness are life long endeavors.

Most people are so focused on hitting some arbitrary number on the scale that they forget that reaching that goal is just the beginning. Most people think it is the finish line...there is no such thing...in fact, you've just arrived at the starting line of a much longer race that is your overall health and well being.

This is really where people fail to make that "lifestyle" change. They're "done" so they go back to old ways of doing things...they neglect their fitness and or drop it all together....they get back into old eating habits, etc. To truly make that lifestyle change requires resilience and an understanding that it's about more than weight...your health and overall well being are very important...unfortunately, your health and well being aren't so easily measured as scale weight.
