want to buy an elliptical

So I am in the market for an elliptical and I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had recommendations about good makes and models or any ones to avoid? I am planning on buy a second hand one off craigs list and will of course examine it thoroughly before purchase. Any advice is much appreciated.

  • In my experience, you get what you pay for. Most home models are pretty chincy. I bought one a few years back and regretted it soon after. They tend to be a bit wobbly and they almost alway squeak like crazy no matter how hard you try to lube it up. I would definately give it a good test run before committing the money. Look for a quality gym model. It's totally worth the extra $$.

I was able to get a Precor EFX elliptical from Craigslist. I love it. The guy who posted it on Craigslist actually put it up for consignment at a local store, so I was able to purchase it without any issues.

I have the Golds Gym model that I bought at Walmart about 3 years ago. I love it and it still works beautifully!

I bought a Pro-form 14.0 CE from their website after purchasing a Pro-form treadmill from my local fitness store. I LOVE both machines. Both are very well made and were reasonably priced. Craigslist is always buyer beware and I think it will be well worth the cost to buy a new machine.

    Happy hunting!!

I have a Precor, and I love it. I've had it over 5 years and no problems at all. The only downside is the price. But it really is a well made machine.
