Feel a cold coming on...

Workout through it?

I have a great workout schedule and am to the point that I look forward to getting my sweat on.
I really don't want to sideline my workouts and or lose my momentum by taking days off if I don't have to.

What say you magic MFP forum?

I was off for almost 2 weeks because I had an awful cold.

I just feel that if my body is sick, it needs rest. But I know a lot of people who work out through the illness.

I would take some echinacea and work out anyway (unless you're allergic to dandelions). As long as it's not in your chest, and you have energy for it, you should be fine.

Harden up, unless it is from the neck down. As in bottom of your neck, not sore throat part of your neck.

I have done workouts with a cold. It depends on how my body feels. A common cold I can pretty much push through.

If it's just coming on, try some Cold Eez! It has worked for me the last 3 times I used it, limiting my cold to a slight sore throat and some tiredness. I was sooo happy to not get the nasty runny nose, sneezing and other stuff with it.
As for working out, cardio definitely will open up your sinuses. You may not feel the greatest, but it does help. If you can take it and don't mind medicating yourself, use some of the 12 hour nasal spray stuff.
I also make hot green tea and add honey to it. It seems to help too.
Good luck and I hope you feel well soon!

When I start feeling sick, I drink lots of orange juice and take a day off.

Id say depends on what kind of sick you are, Ive been all congested but feel fine and no green stuff, so Im working through it and using the steam room to break it up. But if it comes with a fever or any contagious symptons STAY HOME for 2 reasons, 1, you most likley need rest 2. dont spread it through out the gym... Hope you feel better!!

It's ok to work out while sick as long as you don't have a fever. Getting your body temp up with exercise when you're feverish makes it worse.

Otherwise, go for it. I do it all the time.

if you work out at a gym please do not go in there and contaminate the whole place..

if you work out from home, then feel free to work out if you feel up to it...

Wow, thank you everyone for taking time to reply!

I don't feel too bad at all, but I do feel it coming on. Based on your helpful responses, I decided I am going to power through and should I start to feel worse over the next few days (I've already had a long talk with my body and told it we don't have time for this nonsense), I will consider taking a day off if needed.

    Thanks again!

I am a conscientious sick exerciser. I wouldn't dream of contaminating anyone other than my own family members while under the weather. ;)

It depends on what your symptoms are. If it's just minor then they say to work through it, and the work out can even make you feel better. But if you have the flu, or if it's a really bad cold with dizziness, sinus congestion, that kind of thing, they say to definitely rest and not overexert yourself or you can become worse.
