Chain'd Reaction Supplement - Glycogen Overload

I think I have stated that I am not one for supplements, but a buddy gave me a few tubs of this stuff and said to use it for cycling and see if it helps. He is a body builder, but said it works great for endurance type stuff. I figured I would try it.
Anyway, I have done a few rides using it and I feel like it does help with my energy but I am unsure if it's just a placebo.
I am here basically asking all the gurus on here what they think about the product and hear some science behind your thoughts. I admit I'm not as knowledgeable than a lot on here so I need some expertise. I tend to take my buddy's word on stuff like this because he has been a successful competitive body builder for 20 years. That makes it hard to not listen to him sometimes.
Give me some insight...

You are focused, ready to train. You’re sweating just thinking about what’s to come. You need long-lasting calories for rapid glycogen overload NOW…so what do you do? Well, you could hang a couple I.V. bags to by-pass the digestive system for constant glycogen feed, but let’s get real here: You need Chain’d Reaction®. Why? Chain’d Reaction® is the first of a new generation of Glycogen Super-Overload and Performance Matrix Drinks that has been structurally altered and pre-digested for immediate utilization and prolonged performance.

Having trouble getting past the "predigested" part.
Like virtually all supplements, this "might" demonstrate a small degree of efficacy for a group of well-trained subjects in a tightly-controlled performance trial, but it is pretty much a waste of money for anyone else.
The idea that you would need "Long-lasting calories for rapid glycogen overload now" is just gibberish. It's the kind of random word salad designed to distract you while some grifter goes through your wallet.0 -
You're getting a hi GI shot of carbs along with some other ingredients that require the warning to keep out of reach of children.
Eat a banana and drink a coffee......... I agree with Adzaks comment about the gibberish, psuedoscientific double talk.
Interestingly you can buy a pound of rice syrup solids (the main ingredient of this stuff) from Amazon for $7.99 and if you don't like it as a supplement you can use it when home brewing beer.0 -
Yea, I kinda assumed it wasn't anything ground breaking or anything. Like I said, it was free so I thought I would try it.
And I always eat before I ride or go for a long run, but eating a banana and drinking coffee when you are in the middle of a timed event doesn't really work all that well. I kinda just figured if I put it in my water bottles on the long endurance events that it may help, but like I said, who knows. The watermelon flavor is pretty tasty though so if you all concur that it certainly won't hurt anything and could possibly help, I will keep using it till it's gone and then see.0 -

It's just important to keep the claims or the features in the right categories and then evaluate them based on the right criteria. In this case -- like other things such as protein shakes-- you are really talking about a delivery system, not the inherent ergogenic properties of the substance itself. One might find that it is an efficient and convenient delivery system, in which case you then have to decide if it is worth the money. It's a two-step evaluation process: efficacy, then value. And everyone is going to have their own scale.0
