I'm currently swimming or running everyday to try and get fit. Is there such a thing as doing too much exercise and if so how much is this?

Swimming is pretty low impact so i don't see issues with it as a daily thing (I know people who did that right into their 80's)
You may want to alternate the running with some weight training or cycling (Cycling uses a very different muscle set to walking/running from experience)

I'm not sure there is such a thing as too much exercise specifically just too much of any one type may not be great for joints and muscles

Just depends on your goal. You may lose muscle along with that fat if your diet isn't in check. But if you just wanna be skinny and you enjoy running go for it! I hardly ever run just lift weights faster lol.

You can do low impact cardio just about every day. Running is higher impact so you want to rest your joints the day after, but if you are alternating running and swimming it should be fine. Also your body should tell you if you're working out too much or not eating enough.

Overall fitness goes beyond just cardiovascular fitness. Incorporate some resistance work as well as some balance and flexibility work.

More specific fitness goals would dictate if you would/should be doing more or less of those various components of fitness.

I walk 4 miles M-F and I run 4miles Mon, Wed, Thursday and Friday. I have had steady weight loss for the last 5 months. If anything I can kick it up to running 5 days a week, but the Dr and Nurse (who is a runner also) tell me I have to take rest days. I just follow what they say and I see results.
