Help with Nurtition

I met with a trainer yesterday who suggested I get 150 grams of protein, with no more than 50g carbs a day then allow myself a cheat meal once a week. I am at a loss of what I can possibly eat to hit these macros and my calorie goal which is typically 1600 w/ exercise. Any one have any ideas? Is there a meal plan I can follow that would help me identify foods to hit my macros? I'd appreciate any food suggestions you have ;)

Did he give you any indication of why these particular macros? I would think 150 grams of protein would be excessive for most females and 50 grams of carbs is very low carb in my estimation. What are your reasons for doing low carb?

To hit those protein goals you're going to have to start eating a lot of meat, poultry, eggs, greek yogurt, etc and even then you'll likely have to supplement with whey. My goal is around 145 grams or so and I pretty much have to have a good protein source with every single meal as well as snacks and I supplement with one whey shake pretty much daily.

you could probably talk to 5 trainers and none of them will give you the same numbers.
Hell all of MFP will respond soon telling you low carb is bad.

Honestly you should do some research on your own, figure out exactly what it is you want to acomplish (weight loss, muscle gain, both, ect) and then decide what you want to do.

I'm 5' 6" and weigh 157. I definitely need to slim down but I want to be fit too. I'm currently doing a total body conditioning class 'boot camp' once a week, weight lifting 2-3 days supplemented with cardio. It's a pretty kick *kitten* routine. The low carb thing followed by a cheat meal once a week I think is just an attempt to jumpstart my metabolism. I figured I've got nothing to lose giving it a shot. It's forcing me to eat cleaner. I have been successful (lost 15 lbs) in 2 mnths of doing my own thing, but I want to eat 'clean' not just hey it's okay to down a bottle of wine because it fits your calorie budget lol. I'm a carb junkie, so I kind of like that it's forcing me to think outside the box, problem is, I just don't have any ideas how to consume that much protein, or what to eat that doesn't include bread, pasta, and rice......

My last response answered some of your questions, but he said 1gram protein for every lb. He also said to eat protein with every meal. Protein + fat is good, protein + carb is ok, just never carb + fat; He's a fairly reputable trainer so I'll run with it and see where I get... if I can find the right foods lol .... That is a ton of protein. Is there a particular time that works best for the whey shakes? (pre-workout/post workout?) I appreciate the feedback.

Ends up being about 50% of your calories from fat, if that helps.

Steak, eggs, chicken breast, milk, and broccoli might get you about on that target.

Bet you'll feel like crap though. Good luck.

Why do you say that? If I start feeling less energetic I'll up the carbs, but honestly Steak, eggs, chicken breast, milk, and broccoli sounds good to me. ;)

Try it and see if your stomach handles it well. Mine doesn't. Not saying it doesn't taste good. :)

    MFP is notoriously low-carb phobic.

Do whatever works best for YOUR body in the end.
