one way I just learned:
find an image on the internet and right click on the image then copy
this will hopefully pick up a good url address (if you don't have a good url it will fail every time)

then on your message type [ img ] [ /img ] and paste your copied url in between the two, but no spaces (have to put spaces here to demonstrate or a little black box appears instead of instructions)
