Hello !
I am a flight attendant, and am constantly traveling, with not much time to eat during the work day. I used to wait until the end of the day and engorge on a huge meal right before bed, or was confined to airport fast food. I am looking for ideas to pack for meals while on the road. The only way to heat things is using hot water, or SOMETIMES on occasion, a microwave in the hotel room. Also keeping foods cold is an issue, as there isn't much space in my galley to "refrigerate" items. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Some things I have tried:
Peanut butter cracker packs
Canned tuna/chicken salad with cracker packets
Granola bars
Jerky
Fruit (bananas and oranges)
Oatmeal
Almonds
Thanks!!

Maybe celery with peanut butter . . . might get a little messy but I think it would keep alright.
Baby carrots -- they even sell some with little packets of ranch.
Maybe string cheese.
Seeds (sunflower/pumpkin)
Apples w/ PB
Raisins or other dried fruit
Unsweetened applesauce (can store at room temperature)
If you need something microwavable (soup/meal) try Amy's meals. They are usually pretty decent as far as the sodium and made from organic ingredients. The organic section at the local grocery store probably carries them, unless you have a Trader Joes, Sprouts, Henrys or Whole Foods nearby. Here is more info.: http://www.amys.com/products/index.php
If confined to Fast Food, try to pick high protein (chicken/beef/turkey maybe yogurt) and low carb (If you can get "animal style" or eat meat without the bun). If they have veggies, (salad) definitely get that in -- you could put your protein on your salad instead of a roll/bun. If it is a Mexican style place try to get fajita meat or fish taco meat. . .. you can put that on a bed of lettuce to avoid the high carb tortillas/chips (just know it will probably be high on a sodium side but what fast food isn't, right?).
Or maybe purchase some protein powder and a "Blender Bottle." You would just need to add the powder to the water and shake. I like the Isopure, personally because they make low carb/low sugar and a zero carb/zero sugar with up to 50g of Protein per 2 scoops (12 fl. oz). It would be something quick and easy in the morning or in between flights that could tie you over until dinner. You could pre-measure it and put it into ziplock bags or something so it would be ready.
Remember . . . if you stick to high protein, fruits, and veggies then you can have more fats (olives/avocados/dressing/mayo/nuts). Drink plenty of water, especially if you do have fast food to flush out the sodium.
I hope these ideas help. Best wishes!:flowerforyou:0 -
Ummm... Cereal with powdered milk? I don't know though, you're the one that would be eating it. Have you hit up recipes.com, bettycrocker.com, google, and other search engines for ideas yet?0

tigertchr23 has some great ideas! As for the protein powder and the ziplock bags. check the baby section at your local store (target or walmart, etc). They used to make a plastic powdered formula holder. It was round, 3-4" across the top and 2+" tall, It had 3 sections with a top that rotated so you could easily pour the formula into a baby bottle. I still see them come through crib room in the nursery.0

Thanks for all the great ideas!! I really love the idea of the powdered protein and baby bottle thing to put it in!! I am also going to start doing the PB and celery as well. I've never seen the carrots with ranch included, so I'll have to keep an eye out for that as well.
As far as the pre-made foods, or packaged meals, its a great idea, in theory, but my lunch bag is very small, and there is no room for me to carry those types of items. Good for a day trip though, then I could carry only that one meal.
Thanks again so much!!0 -
Hey I hard boil 6 eggs every sunday and then when I run out of time during the week I grab one of them for breakfast or a snack!
Also I carry Sculpt protien shakes with me as they don't need refrigerating I just have one in my hand back all the time, when I drink it I replace Or beef jerky, also keeps well in hand bags, a tin of tuna and some crackers Good Luck0
