  • I am having the same issue!!! I have been even under my calorie goal and I still haven't lost one single pound!
I am just as frustrated as you are!
  • Okay, two things.

    1. You've only been at this for 2 weeks, give it some time.
    2. 10lbs by Christmas is not only un-healthy, but un-realistic. Rapid weight loss can also effect your milk supply.

1500 calories seems just fine for a breastfeeding mom. Just keep at it and keep hydrated.

10 lbs before Christmas is pushing it, healthy weight loss is only like 2 lbs a week. I can tell you the only thing I have ever lost allot of weight on in a short amount of time is doing the Adkins diet.. and being stick with it!!! I lost 10 lbs in a week and a half, but I don't know if you should do that with breast feeding.. Let me know if you find out anything else that works. I have been working out hard (50 in cardio & strength training 6 days a week) for over a month now and dieting but not a very stick diet.. I still have a 150 snack everyday =( and I have lost 11 lbs in 30 days.

If you aren't losing and not gaining I wouldn't worry about it just yet. I'd focused on staying healthy and trying again after you are done breastfeeding. I know how hard it is to try to stay in shape when a new baby but as long as you aren't going up in weight I wouldn't worry, you have something more important.

Okay i should say when i joined i wanted 2 lose 10 pounds before christmas i know it wont happen now i wouls just like 2 know anything and everything that will help me lose some extra weight! Im also doing the jillian michaels 30 day shred and its kicking my butt hopefully that will help me some also!
  • That sounds really strange to me. 1500 cals shouldn't be too much. Especially being a nursing mommy. My daughter dropped 50 lbs iin three months while she was nursing and ate pretty much anything she could. Is there anyway you are taking SAMPLE bites of goodies throughout the day and not logging them? They add up fast. If you are accurate with your count you are due for a 5lb week hopefully. Maybe your scale is evil and possessed..... good luck...

As a nursing momma you don't need to drop below 1500 calories. So, up your workout. You also, don't need to lose 10 lbs by Christmas, either. It's not healthy for you or your milk supply. How far post partum are you? I've nursed all my kids, and it takes longer to lose weight, while you're nursing. I'm not saying its impossible, just takes longer. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet. Lots of fruit and vegies, and proteins.

Are you getting 1500 net calories, or is 1500 your total consumption? If it's the latter you may not be getting enough calories.

Also, it can be difficult to lose weight while breastfeeding because of the hormones. And, it's not really a good idea to try to lose weight while breastfeeding anyway. You need to make sure you're getting enough calories and nutrition for you body to function properly, enough that you can keep up your milk supply, and enough to make sure you milk has enough nutrients for your baby.
  • well that was me with my first kid i lost weight so fast but with my second i cant seem 2 lose any im having such a hard time! I think me having 2 kids just 15months apart is part of it.

Each pregnancy is different, your body changes and may not do what it did the first time around, ie lose weight as fast. After my first child, I lost a lot of weight fast but I couldn't breast feed he wouldn't latch on and we both grew very frustrated. My second child, I didn't gain as much weight but couldn't seem to lose it either and with him I was breast feeding. I will say that you do need those calories no matter how times you are BF a week, it takes a lot of energy to produce milk and your baby at 10 months is definately eating a lot. Continue with what you are doing and don't go below 1500, add exercise. When you are done BF, then get a bit stricter and maybe go lower on your calories. Right now your body need those extra calories and it could be holding on to your reserves because your not eating enough. Try upping your calories by 300 and see what happens, you may start droppng some weight. Good luck! Hope this helps.

It's likely you need to eat more. Staying under your calorie goal too much won't help you to lose but likely keep you stuck. Eat what MFP recommended when you signed up and if you're working out quite a bit consider adding back in some of those workout cals.

Edited to add: I see March 2010 as your join up date on MFP, if you've not yet lost even a lb. perhaps it's time to take a look at what foods you're eating and consider upping your cals. If you're under what's recommended perhaps work on keeping sodium low, eat enough protein, healthy fats and complex carbs. If you're eating a lot of processed foods that could definitely hinder weightloss. Watch the sugar intake and also keep in mind with 23 lbs. to drop you'll be losing at a slower pace than someone with a larger amount to lose. Working to lose 1/2-1 lb weekly might be a healthier goal ( I don't know what you now have it set at) but just because we set it at 1/2, 1, or 2 lbs a week doesn't necessarily mean our bodies will drop that every week.

We've all at times had to play around with our workouts, food intake etc.
Oh and most definitely be sure you're getting in plenty of water as well!

    Good luck:drinker:

see my first was the one that didnt latch on i had hell trying 2 breastfeed him for 5 months i tried everything i pump and tryed all differnt things 2 get him 2 latch and he never did so i was doing formula and breast feeding....and hes the one i was loseing tons of weight with...this one eats alot...i dont think i can up my calories cuz im having a hrad time just 2 eat the calorie that i have cuz i feel like im eatting all day already
  • Hi,

Please, take it really easy if you are breastfeeding. Monitor your general health and get advice from a qualified person, if needed. Just take great care during this time. Your body is working hard and doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

    Kind regards,

    John

Have you been doing some cardio or strength training? I've noticed that has really helped me. It'll come off, sometimes our bodies are stubborn and it takes some time for your metabolism to kick in. Are you doing strength training or pilates? Sometimes you won't lose right away on that as well because you start building muscle, but they Vola', suddenly your losing weight. Good luck, you'll do great!! Just hang in there...
