Is 30 minutes a day okay?

Reason I ask:
I am wondering if I am doing okay on working out , I started working out last Friday when I noticed my weight almost reached 170, the scale showed 168lbs. realizing this I decided I do not want to gain anymore.... & I decided to officially dedicate myself to making a complete lifestyle change for the sake of my health and fitness.

Past Stuff, not important:
I had been eating fast food because of stress of work, school(graduated three months ago), and I always looked for convenient foods... and drank little water and mostly soda. Which was the problem I think. because before college 4 years ago I weighed 130lbs and drank water only.

Current:
I am a 23 y.o male who is 5'7'' , who is skinny But with a belly (according to BMI I am overweight)
What I have been doing:
I have been waking up early and doing cardio with a mix on strength within 30-40 minutes a day. (example: jog for 10 minutes 5 minutes strength, 5 minutes jumping jacks/jumprope,10 minutes jog and sometimes additional 5 or 10 minuets for strength or cardio to give one or the other a rest for the day)
As a result, since Friday I was able to go from 168lbs to 164.2 lbs
Diet wise:
I have cut of breads and pastas, frozen foods,fast food, and soda from my diet and going for water only and eating small/medium portions for meals and fruits/popcorn/nuts for snacks.
Based on all this, am I doing alright doing cardio/strength for 30 minutes a day or should I do a longer work out?
It is day six and I no longer been getting soar compared to the first 3 days :P so I am not sure if I should extend or keep the same.

weight loss is from a calorie deficet...exercise is for health...
Yes you can build a bigger deficet with exercise but it really does come down to how much you eat...not what you eat.0 -
30 mins worked for me at the beginning of my lifestyle change but since then I added more cause I enjoy it. But also I eat well which helps more than exercise.0

Very good point, I will take this into consideration about "How much you eat", I mean I had been overindulging the past couple years. I believe a good mix of exercise and watching how much I eat is a good point that I will keep in mind.
&& I am glad to hear 30 minutes worked for you at first, I am actually enjoying the daily routine of exercise, which I do plan to extend, maybe run a marathon someday because I really love the running.
