Diet at kenya volunteering!

Hi Guys,
I will be spending 3weeks in Kenya volunteering and therefore would be eating slice bread for breakfast but then only rice and beans through out the whole three weeks (apart for some exceptions).
Do you think eating rice everyday without exercise would make me gain weight or lose weight?
Thanks :)

What kind of volunteering are you doing? If it's something fairly active, such as looking after children or doing environmental work, then it's probably not going to be a problem in terms of your weight loss.

My limited experience of African food tells me there's quite often plenty of vegetables available. There are also lots of rice and breads about, but you don't have to wholly rely on them to fill your belly.

Will be with children doing something like english lessons.. So not sedentary work though not that active.
Will be living with the families in their huts so probably yes rice and vegetables only .. Just worried that a lot of rice will result to weight gain due to excess carbs

I'm sure you will be fine - lack of all the usual stuff we snack and graze on will help. The children will be keen for you to play and dance!

I lived in Kenya for five years and you're not going to eat much rice and fresh vegetables, especially if you're living in a rural area. You're going to eat lots of ugali, nyama choma, sukuma wiki, chapati, and, if you're near Lake Victoria, lots and lots of tilapia...all of it fried in vegetable oil. To drink: chai, made with unpasteurized milk. If you happen to go to a restaurant, hotel, lodge, etc., you'll have access to lots of Indian food. None of it is food you really want to pig out on, believe me, so I wouldn't worry about gaining weight, especially if you're only going to be there for three weeks.

    Good luck! :)

And rice won't make you fat just because it is rice. Eating too many calories will make you gain weight.
