Having a bad day, all I want to do is go home and eat!

My day started out fine but some bad stuff has happened at work. Nothing too bad, just some frustrating things that seem to keep happening one after the other, and it's only noon. When I got a phone call with some bad news about fifteen minutes ago, my thoughts immediately turned to skipping the gym after work, going home and drinking some wine and eating some cookies!!! That's something I would have done, no questions asked, like two weeks ago! But I've made a commitment to my weight loss and I need to stay on track! Help me! How do you stay on track when you have a sh*tty day??? I want the comfort of a cookie and a drink!

Exercise has been proven to reduce stress in people. Skipping the gym SHOULDN'T be an option. The reason one would skip is because of illness, prior commitment or the gym being closed down.
Now you get to choose. If you're really "committed", you'll hit the gym.

Thanks! You're right, if I'm really committed, I'll go to the gym and keep my hands off the bad stuff when I get home. :)

Turn some music on. Loudly. Whatever you feel like.
If you need something calming, maybe melancholic, listen to that. If you need something with rock and dubstep to get your body going, listen to that. Or maybe a 'stupid' happy chart song without special meaning, which just improves your mood.

    If you need to rant:

If you need to calm down:

    If you need a hug:

    Open that link:

and you absolutely need this in your life, if you like bunnies:

Try to use this stuff. And GO to the gym. Get the emotions out of your body! Use them, don't let those feelings use you.
And you will feel better afterwards. When you are done, get a nice shower, get home, cuddle up in your bed with warm blankets and reward yourself. Not with food, but with something else that you enjoy.
    You can do this :flowerforyou:

hey there, I'm sorry you are having a bad day, when I have days like that I post in my fitness group exactly like you just did and the people in my group HELP ME < here is a quick story about me and what I'm talking about.....When I first started my fitness journey over a year ago, I felt so alone. I didn't have anyone at home encouraging me to go to the gym or to eat better, so I knew if I was going to make a change I was going to have to be very strong because I felt so alone. Then I found a fitness group on facebook that literally changed my life. the people in this fitness group encouraged me, motivated me, and inspired me to keep pushing through to eat better and to get my daily workouts done. They were strangers to me but believed in me!!When I was down they lifted me up, when I had some small progress they congratulated me and they NOTICED me, I was no longer alone! If it weren't for that group I would have quit like the 100 times I had before in the past. These strangers have now become great friends and supporters of my goals and my fitness dream. I wanted to pay it forward as I knew there were more people out there just like me who needed that extra support and motivation. so I started my own fitness group. if what I just described about feeling alone and needing some extra support and motivation sounds like you, I can help you! I'd love to help you reach your goals and me and the others in my group are all working towards reaching our own, one day at a time, one step at a time. I've have learned a lot over the past year in my own fitness journey, I've gone from a size 14 to a size 5 and I'd love to help you. if you are interested in being a part of my group, no obligations, no special commitments either, just please let me know sweety you are not alone, ok...... :-) Have a blessed day!

Nenshali - THANK YOU!!!! I immediately visited emergencycompliment, how genius!!! And I like what you said about going to the gym, taking a shower and relaxing in bed, sounds perfect! I will do this instead of eating cookies tonight!

Ladyred - love your story, I am finding that the support groups and forums on MFP are starting to really help when I'm in a bad place like right now.

Both of you have made me feel infinitely better than before!!!

I truly don't believe I can offer any better advice than what has been given.

Nenshali - I LOVE those links and very glad I checked this.

And OP - You will feel a million times better after you get to the gym. Think about tomorrow and how you will feel about your decisions then. I've had a piss poor week myself and not eating my feelings has made me feel a lot more optimistic about things. Take a break from work if you can and just get up and walk away for 5 or 10 minutes, too.

Work it off at the gym and you won't want a cookie anymore :)

    Good luck!
