Feel bloated after eating just about anything?

For example, I just finished a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was whole wheat bread, natural peanut butter, and just regular crappy jam. It wasn't particularly large but still my stomach is puffed out and I feel overly full. The last thing I ate was 5 hours earlier and it was one shredded wheat biscuit with almond milk. I only consume the milk soaked into the biscuit and throw the rest away.
I'm 6'4", 190lbs at present and mild to moderately active if that matters. It drives me nuts to feel and look this way. Does anyone else have this issue and/or a way to deal with it? It's not just PB&J that does it, it's a LOT of foods.

Have you gone to a doctor to see if it's any digestive issues leading to the bloating?!0

Well the example that you gave contains some Fat content and carbs
So this is causing a slow release into your body and blood is being used by your stomach aka bloating ...0 -
I used to get really bloated.
These are what I found to be very useful.
Cardio exercise.
Eating very slowly.
Adding more fibre to your diet ( I started to eat alot of vegetables, almost 5 times )
I stopped eating bread, reduced processed food, lower my salt and sugar intake.
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day, sip, don't chug.

Go to a GI doctor. A variety of intolerances, allergies, and disorders can result in this. I have this happen, too, and I have wicked IBS.

Stop consuming gluten, both your meals contained wheat and that usually bloats people. Gluten sticks to the intestines and is very hard to digest.0

I used to feel the same way, bloated all the time and other digestive issues. Turns out I was allergic to wheat, since I cut it out all those problems have gone away. There might be something your allergic to that is causing you to feel react that way. Maybe a trip to the doctor or trying process of elimination. That was what keyed me in, someone suggested it, so I went wheat free for a week and felt better, then brought it up to my DR and it was confirmed.0

Have you been checked by a GI doctor? You could have gastroparesis, IBS, IBD, crohn's, or some other stomach issue. You could also have food intolerances and could be checked for those by an allergist.0

Yes! All of the time!!! I went to a gastroenterologist, where I was told to eat more fiber, which I did. It didn't help. It still hasn't helped and I put that stuff in everything I drink.
I am giving it a few more weeks and if my exercise regiment isn't helping, I am going back and making them give me an ultrasound - even if I have to pay for it out-of-pocket.0 -
On another note -
I am on a low-carb diet and don't eat wheat, ever. So, it is not a gluten or wheat allergy as many people suggest. Some days I wake up this way without having had anything to eat and other days a simple cup of tea will make me feel this way.0 -
I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but I highly suggest checking out the low FODMAP diet (stands for Fermentable Oligo-saccharides, Disaccharides, Mono-saccharides and Polyols). It was developed at Monash University in Australia for people suffering from IBS. In a nutshell, researchers there have found that some people have problems digesting certain types of carbs/sugars found in various foods. The main culprits are usually garlic, onions, apples, pears, beans and yes, wheat too (but not the gluten). It's definitely helped me with persistant bloating.

One more thing, since I saw someone post something about artichokes. Artichokes are high in fructans, so you may want to avoid them.

I would definately go to a gastro doctor. I'd also try a food diary. I used to feel the same way - like everyday my stomach bothered me and I was bloated and I had no idea what it was. Doing a food diary will help. And an elimination diet. Cut out one thing and see how it goes. You just have to be careful about doing one thing at a time. For instance in your sandwich, it could be the nuts, the bread, or a random ingredient in one of the items. It took me a long, long time, but i finally pinpointed the items that bothered me and stopped eating them and I feel SO much better now. One thing was the ingredient "carageenan" - i finally figured out that anything I ate with that ingredient bothered me, soy milk with it bothered me, but soy milk without it was OK. So it could be a variety of things. Gluten is a big one for a lot of people, so it might seem like torture to not eat bread or pasta for a while, but once you do it you'll know for sure whether that's you're issue or not and then you can move on! Uhm, maybe not just eating "anything" but I can get bloated just from taking in a big glass of water. I diet and would rather have the feeling of being hungry than the feeling of being full and bloated, hate the feeling.0

How long you been feeling that way?
If I were you I would journal every little thing and see how you react for 2 weeks, if this is still happening I would go see a specialist.
This happened to me and it went on for 3 weeks, and I finally got blood work done and an allergy test too. Everything came back normal.
My issue was stress! I went to an acupuncturist and I got better! Till this day I go for stress and overall health!0 -
