Is a 1 hour workout long enough to lose weight?

I've been doing a good job so far with my workouts. I just want to make a change and see if doing less cardio would be the right thing. I used to do 80 minutes of cardio which does seem A LOT lol but I really want to lose weight that's why. I'm pretty much close to my goal weight. I'm 125-126 lbs right now and my goal is to reach 120 lbs. What I've been doing lately at the gym is 30 minutes of lifting and 30 minutes of cardio. Is that enough? I eat 1600-1700 calories a day btw.

Weight loss comes from a calorie deficit.

    Exercising keeps the body healthy.

Thanks everyone. :) I just thought that limiting my cardio down from 80 min to 30 min would be a bad change but I'm glad that it should be fine!

All depends on intensity. I prefer <15 minute workouts that leave me face-down on the floor and have had wonderful results from them.

If you finish your workout and your not tired, either increase the intensity or the length until you are.

80 mins of cardio seems like a lot because....well...it is.

Exercise is not necessary for weight loss. A caloric deficit is.

In short, probably! As long as you're at a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight. As for "enough" it's your personal goals for fitness/etc ... I consider my workout "enough" if I am tired at the end of it. If I sweat, am tired, and/or accomplished something that I had previously been unable to do, that's "enough" for me. I am kind of like you and usually do around 45 minutes of cardio (running) and 30 minutes of lifting (strong lifts and some other isolated exercises + calisthenics).

Just remember that because you are VERY close to your goal weight, your loss will be SLOW. That doesn't mean that what you are doing isn't effective! You just have to keep plugging away at it and keep in mind that you aren't going to lose 2lb in a week, you have a very small amount to lose, and it will take some time to get that last bit of weight off.

Seems like you've done a great job, keep it up!!

I love the shorter workouts! I used to bust *kitten* for an hour or 2 or 3!!!! I plateaued...now eating more and working out less time but more intense and it's working!!!

The best exercise routine you can have is one you can stick to long term

Don't rely on exercise to lose weight
Get your diet in check first and then find a fitness plan you enjoy and can stick to

That will be the difference between short term and long term success
