Is my diet too boring?

I typically eat almost the same thing ever day for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Supper varies a little. Part of my rationale is that I have spent too much of my life food obsessed. If I'm having mostly the same thing every day then I don't really need to think about it. I'm trying to change my mentality so that I'm eating for survival rather than pleasure and finding pleasure in other things instead. However, I don't want to harm myself or miss some valuable nutrient because of my boringness. Feel free to look at my diary and suggest improvement.

I took a peek at a few days--you have a bit of variety and it seems to be nicely balanced. If it's working for you, keep it up.

I think if it's working for you and you don't feel sick or unhappy then why not stick with it? The system works. My downfall has always been curiosity/ novelty. And of course, doughnuts.

The only thing I would say is that when you reach goal weight, then what? Are you going to eat this exact regimen every single day for the rest of your life? Using your diet to control your weight is a poweful and effective tool but perhaps this is an opportunity to create a "glide path" for a long-term sustainable eating habit?

I got a lot out of actually seeing what 10g of cheese/ 30g of cereal/ 100ml of anything actually looked like. Hopefully you aren't missing out on that subtle education- I can see that you're diligently logging and weighing what you eat regularly. Maybe start to think about foods you're going to be reintroducing and how you'll manage those in your maintenance stage.

Thanks for this, I'm very close to maintenance and am a little anxious about that. Currently, I'm not feeling bored with what I'm eating but I do believe that it isn't sustainable in the long run. I'm so afraid that if I give myself permission to eat anything "fun" that I'll never stop and I've worked so hard to get to where I am. I do have restrictions for health reasons (can't eat dairy - although yogurt is okay, have to really be careful with gluten).

You have a lot to be proud of! You've done so well to lose so much and you have clearly put thought into your eating plan even if that was only so that you didn't have to think about it again- so kudos and embrace the success! I can only aspire to do what you have done.

Good luck with reintroducing the foods you've been planning to eat on maintenance. Being GF means obvious limitations but I'm sure I don't need to tell you that there's countless things you can still enjoy and of course with that comes the need to moderate where necessary. I'm sure with your approach that maintenance will be a breeze!

If it works for you... then who cares?

Honestly, there is no way I could do it. I get bored TOO easily and then I end up eating something else that I hadn't planned for... which is NOT a good thing. So I rotate my options as much as possible week to week and then make sure I have 3 or so options during each week. Then, I don't get bored.

Are you getting the nutrients you need? Are you getting results? Are you happy with it overall? If so, then nothing wrong at all with it being "boring"

I don't think your diet is too boring! You obviously plan well and it's working! I've been on maintenance for three years now and I tend to eat similar things. I'm currently obsessed with brown rice and veggies topped with an egg and siracha. I have it all the time for dinner, and often with mix-ins like nuts. I appreciate not having to obsess or think too much about it... that way when I do go out to dinner or have a treat I don't need to freak out about it.

Also - you may have similar themes but you do vary your food quite a bit! Nicely done.

humans are creatures of habit...regardless of weight control goals, most people tend to eat the same things day to day and/or have a handful of various things they go to...but by and large they cycle through the same stuff at least week to week.

I know for example that my buddy here at work will be having a peanut butter sandwich today...because it's Friday and he has a PBJ on pretty much every Monday, Wed, and Fri...he switches things up and has a ham and cheese on Tues and Thurs...it's pretty much like clockwork, and that's how most people operate.

I'm having my very typical black beans, 1/2 avocado, and some protein source with veggies and a yogurt dip. I pretty much have that for lunch 3-4 days per week...my breakfast is typically scrambled eggs, oatmeal, and a low sodium v8. Most of my variety comes at dinner time when I actually have time to be creative and prepare something incredibly delicious.

If you don't mind it then I don't see why not. Some people can't have the same meal even a day after. I'm not the same- I can eat leftovers for days. I also cook up a bulk of chicken or turkey balls so I reheat them throughout the week. So same seasoned/flavored chicken practically everyday, but I do tend to switch up the veggies and sides often. Those are easy to cook up and don't take too much time so I don't feel like I'm in the kitchen slaving away for every meal.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I guess my question under the question was about nutrition. If I am eating mostly the same thing every day, am I getting all the nutrition I need. I know I am eating mostly healthy food, but is that enough?

I think eating the same thing every day is actually very effective. I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day, too and find that it's helpful to keep me on track. I don't give myself the option to make bad decisions for lunch. For example, my old office (where I did Weight Watchers at work and lost 30 pounds) had a cafeteria downstairs that sold delicious, unhealthy foods. So I made my lunch every day and brought the exact same thing. If I went to the cafeteria without a homemade lunch, I would be tempted by the restaurant-type food with loads of fat, salt, calories, etc. If being boring helps you maintain a routine, then it's all good!

I eat the same stuff all th etime- I eat the same exact veggies + eggs + bacon almost every day.

it's easy- i know what it is- I don't have to guess and if I order at a restaurant- I know exactly what I"m getting within 25-50 calories.
    easy peasy lemon squeezy.

it's only boring if you think it's boring.

Are you hitting your requisite fat and protein goals? Are you getting all or most of your essential vitamins and minerals through your diet? If the answer to those things is yes then you are fine...if not, you'd want to make some changes from a nutritional standpoint.
