Is it awkward switching to a new personal trainer?

I used to have a different trainer the whole of last year until he moved country he was brilliant one of the best. He recommended me a different trainer which I've had since about July/August . I haven't seen him since before Christmas so I've been doing that plan an January I wasn't really in the gym so I did that plan all through February. I've adapted to my training plan I need to switch it up an make it more challenging.
The one I currently used was great just recently I've found he hasn't responded to my email to book another training session I wasn't sure he'd got the email so a few days later I sent a text instead as he may have forgot or something. He didn't reply.
So I've decided it's best if I change trainers since this one seems to want to train me anymore or just busy.

How can I switch trainers without it being awkward? since it's the ones that work in the gym I'm assuming these all know each other. I'll still see this one around in the gym which makes it awkward if if I'm with a different trainer .
When seeing a new trainer do I make a comment about what I have done with previous trainers? or just not mention it so they know what level I'm at?

Every trainer knows that sometimes they're going to get a client that they don't quite mesh with. It'll only be awkward if either of you makes it awkward, which shouldn't happen because people switch trainers all the time. It should be pretty obvious to them why you switched, and if they ask you why you went with someone else, just say that you wanted to work with someone who had a more flexible schedule (or something).

I'm not exactly getting bad results with the guy he's great we got on well, he's just not responding to anything and I don't really want to be persisting any further .
Thats the only reason I'm switching to maybe find someone more committed not as flaky.

No, not awkward if you're straight forward about it. It's only weird if you over-explain or avoid it.

If he's not responding, then I think it's time to move on! It won't be awkward. You snooze you loose!

Thats true I won't need to really explain anything as it was a pay by hour thing so I didn't have a contract.

I am currently with my 4th trainer - they all knew each other - I grew out of the first trainer had - and she knew it - we are still very good friends, I moved onto another who ended up moving away and he recommended another guy who I like and stayed with for year but in the end I felt he wasn't right - and he knew it too - and I changed to the guy I`m with now - My current trainer was very instrumental in getting me onto a lifting team so now I`m working with him and the team coach - they talk about my workouts - It is not awkward at all

personal trainers are charlatans, they are stealing from you, do not pay them a cent, any info you need can be got for free, most just use you to do there own workout and charge you for it, they get paid for working out at the gym

I still need a trainer I'm not able to challenge myself enough or have enough knowledge to create a plan .
I don't know anyone else who goes to the gym.
It works for mw I've gotten great results so far this way than when I was doing it without a proper plan.

You are paying for a service - if you are not getting the service you want you find another provider. Keep the pay for service at the professional level and if he asks why you switched then you just provide feedback like you would any other service provider give feedback that you felt that he was not able to provide you with what you needed because ... don't make it personal, lay blame or criticism just give him the facts he needs to know for his own information, it is up to him from there - he may try to win you back or he may not care - if he doe not care than you made the right decision to change anyhow, if he tries to win you back consider giving him what he wants on your terms :)

Would I just say he didn't respond to any email or the text?If he does I don't know if he will.
He's a good trainer thats the only actual reason that I'm thinking I should switch and I don't want to be bombarding emails/texts either or maybe he's getting back to me at another time either way he's not communicating anything.
I just need to pick another an look around a bit there's about 4/5 who work in the gym. I haven't seen any of them around so I have no idea what they are like.

Gonna email a new trainer later although just keep thinking they all know each other , I guess I just won't mention which trainer I switched from an just say I have a plan from a previous trainer I just need a new one. (might say he hasn't responded to email or text).

This. This is a business, and you are the customer. If you are not getting what you need/want, switch. But, at the same time, be nice about it. It's only awkward if you make it awkward. And if the trainer is awkward or annoyed about it, then you definitely shouldn't still be with him/her.

If you see him in the gym ask him directly! Put him on the spot.
Then say to him, that you will have to ask someone else if he can't help in the next x number of days.
I would do that! There are several at my gym. One I would NEVER use, others are ok and 2 FAB ones. I use one of the fab ones obviously, and if he is not available I could ask the other one (a girl) to do a session or two I guess.

The times I've seen him he's been with clients.
I don't maybe he's more focused on his new clients or more regular clients, since I've tried twice as it'd could've been something like he'd forgotten to reply or intended and got distracted , now it's clear he's just ignoring it or leaving long before getting back to me. Even a simple message like I'll get back to you next week with a time" would be ok.

I'll just switch it'd be interesting to see what a different trainer is like. It's a pay per hour thing so I can easily switch to a different one if needed. I've been looking around at the other trainers they seem to keep in up to date with their clients from looking at their facebook pages so I'm going to try one of them see how it goes maybe the next will be more reliable. I haven't seen either of them anytime I've been in the gym only the one I've been using at the moment.

I have the new trainer booked for tomorrow do I say something like
" my last plan is from a previous trainer I need to change it I haven't been able to get in touch with him he's not been responding to any attempts to try an book a session so I thought I'd change trainers"
Or should I not mention it and let him gauge my fitness level? or just show him the plan I've been following not mention anything.

I wouldn't mention the other trainer. I would just tell the new one what you have been doing and I'm sure he will go through some of his own tests to see where you are as far as your fitness level.
  • If the trainer is not replying to your messages, then I would have NO problem dropping him and seeing a new trainer! If he approaches you about it, I would honestly tell him that you tried contacting him several times and didn't hear back.

I am sure trainers are very used to people leaving and moving around. Good luck!

you're overthinking this. just switch. this is a business relationship and if you're not getting the response you want then you're making a business decision. stop treating this like you're trying to start dating your ex boyfriend's cousin. yes, they know each other, yes, they'll talk about you for a minute, but who gives a damn. make the decision that works for you

My previous trainer just text me now I already booked a different trainer. What do I say back?
I might book him for next week instead?
Jus so I can compare and see how I am with both trainers?
