Weighing using two scales. major difference.

So I have been using a dial scale for the past fees months and decided I would go the digital route for more accurate readings.
When I got that digital guy home, 18pounds heavier than my dial scale. Whoa.
So I took some common items and weighed them both. At a small spectrum, they weigh in the same items at the same weight. When they get to me, 18lbs of difference.
Any inputs? Huge discouragement.

Make sure you are on a level, hard surface not carpet. My digital scale weighs about 6 pounds light on carpet. I've checked it against my doctor's digital scale so I know the hard surface reading is correct.0

Same spots on the file floor. Lined up with the grout lines.0

As sad as this is - it happened to me when I went from my old dial scale to my digital scale. If I remember correctly it was about 22 pounds.
It is sad. But, just keep weighing on the same digital scale from now on.0 -
It's just a number... Try to just pick one and measure improvements from there.
If the new scale was 18lbs lighter than the old one, would your pants be looser on you? No, so just use it as a measure.0 -
It's entirely possible that the only difference between the two scales is whether you're weighing in 18lbs heavier/lighter than perhaps you actually are, with the losses/improvements you've been noting still being valid albeit at a slightly different starting weight than the one you had assumed you were. If they're weighing everything else at the same weight (or with differences so small they don't really count) then there could be other reasons for the weight difference that would only be identifiable if we had the scales (and yourself) in front of us so we could see what was going on.
Don't be discouraged, the losses are still losses and the improvements have still been made, it's just the starting point may have been a little different.0 -
I did the same thing. I started MFP with a dial scale and then I got a digital scale. My weight was 10# more on the digital scale. I just changed my beginning number on MFP and it automatically changed my goal loss from 70 to 80#.0
