Biological functions

OK, so this is an odd and perhaps slightly embarrassing topic, but hey, I've been wondering, so I'm putting it out there. So I'm drinking more water daily than I have for my entire life, with a minimum of 8 glasses a day. This, of course, leads to "having to go" more often as expected. What I don't understand is why it's not helping with the eh...number two. I would have expected constipation to be better but it seems to be the same if not worse. Can anyone provide some high fiber suggestions to help unclog the pipes?

I struggle with constipation also, in spite of tons of water, veggies, etc. For the past 15 years, I've started my day with one rounded teaspoon of psyllium husk (mixed with water). Follow with another large glass of water. Really helps. My favorite brand is GNC plain powder. I used to take a whole tablespoon, but stopped because it's expensive, and also, the teaspoon was enough. Hope this helps and good luck!0

I had the same problem when I first started eating healthy and drinking tons of water... Bananas and other fruits are great, prune juices, and coffee seemed to help, however I think it was just my body getting used to the changes.. It lasted 2 weeks but thankfully everything *ahem* cleared up eventually...0

I love Fiber One bars. They are so delicious and they even have chocolate in them. Even the Walmart brand is equivalent to the yummy taste. Also, Flatout Flatbread is amazing. It's filling and has 9 grams of fiber. Apples are good. Have you tried the fiber water mix? I haven't, but it seems like it would be good for that.
Maybe it's just my body, but I haven't had a single problem with constipation at all. In fact, if I don't go twice a day, something's wrong. Probably TMI. Sorry about that. lol I usually eat more fiber than the recommended amount., but it definitely keeps me full longer.0 -

Kashi Go Lean high protein and high fiber cereal in the morning and a couple of dry prunes at night are very helpful. Also Benafiber (sp?) or Metamucil with water during the day. I have the opposite problem because I eat lots of fiber (vegetables and fruits), but once in a while, specially if my protein intake is up, my insides take another turn.
I hope that this information is helpful. Good luck!0 -
I have seen many such posts over the course of the last 4 - 5 months. I too experience the same problem. I have begun to use miralax others are using benefiber, and some have increased their fruit intakes. I know that many people struggle with this problem, so it is quite common despite how much water is taken in. I avoid grain products due to being gluten intolerant, but I do try to eat vegetables that are higher in fiber - still I have problems with constipation. I think, though, as our bodies find their balance, this will resolve itself over time. In the mean time, I suggest exploring other high fiber foods, or adding a fiber supplement to your diet such as benefiber, etc. If the issue persists and becomes seriously problematic, then see your health care professional.

I will definitely explore that as an option. Thanks.0 -
I love Fiber One bars.
I love the Fibor One bars too, BUT.... they give me instant gas (I know TMI) Had to stop eating them  I mean instantly, it is the strangest thing.
As for the constipation, I find a banana a day has helped me. You would think that eating healthier would help the body function better, not always the case.0 -
I've been taking a product for the past week from GNC. Advanced Woman's wellness probiotic, Has enzymes to restore the balance in your GI tract and stomach. Plus it has cranberry extract for UT function and something to help with hormonal balance. I've been feeling much better!!!!! Plus a lot less bloating.0

Finally someone with the same problem that I have. I was on a good start. Walked 2 weeks straight with average calorie burn of 264. I have clocked 16 miles this month, kept my calorie intake in check, lost 2 pounds and then I hit bad constipation. Had not had bowel movement in more than 7 days. It made me sick and weak so much so that I could not work out for 3 days (I have been doing 5 to 6 days per week which is my goal). Now, I have gained the 2 pounds plus back I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Just bought benefiber kiwi strawberry drinks today. I am desperate.0
