16 pounds in 2 months

Hi all! I am 5'8" and currently 146 lbs. I am hoping to lose 16-20 pounds and was wondering if anyone had any luck losing roughly 2 pounds/week at a similar height and weight.

You are currently a healthy weight for your height and have very little to lose, therefore 2 lbs a week is an unrealistic amount. Losing 1/2 - 1 lb per week is healthy for your stats.

I'm also 5'8" and am currently 148 lbs, trying to lose 18 to get down to 130. Several years back, I was at 145 and lost 15 lbs successfully, and it was hard for me to lose more than 1 lb per week, even when strictly limiting my diet and exercising heavily. When you're already in the healthy range for your height (as we both are) it seems to be a lot more difficult to lose weight quickly...it's probably a mechanism meant to protect your body from unhealthy rates of weight loss/gain and frequent fluctuations.

Losing 2 lbs a week is a bit aggressive, but possible. With that said, it will be easier and healthier to lose the weight if you aim for losing around 1 lb per week.

Best of luck! I'm over here trying to do the same thing. :)

Slow it down, aim for .5 lb/week and you will have a lot more success. Good luck!

In my opinion it's hardly achievable and definitely not healthy. You may be able to lose the weight if you take extreme measures. but is losing weight all that matters? Doesn't it matter if you lose fat, or muscle, or just water?

If you try to lose this much this quickly at your healthy weight and succeed, a lot of that loss will likely be muscle (since there are not that many fat reserves to be used anyways), so you might not even decrease your body fat percentage. So you will end up the smaller version of the same body. Body I assume you are not happy with since you're trying to change it.

I would recommend losing at a pace of 1/2-1lb a week, with small deficit and strength training. If you are not doing resistance training yet, this could be the thing that transforms your body into it's leaner version.

16lbs in two months is doable if you have a lot of weight to lose, however your fortunate enough to already be within a healthy range. Realistically 0.5lbs a week would be possible, if your not already doing so you might want to look into weightlifting and judge your look on the mirror as opposed to the scale.

I am the same height and started around your weight and it has been very slow coming off after the first few pounds. .5 lb a week would be a good week. Since I am already at a healthy weight, I get crazy hungry if I cut more than 250-500 calories a day. Try a smaller deficit and lift weights. If will take longer but you will look better in the end.
