Can you exercise with a cold and dry cough?

I started having cold symptoms last week and stopped my exercise regime. Some of the symptoms have subsided, but I have a lingering dry cough. Can I still exercise? If not, would I at least be able to do something light, like walking (I plan to do it all day)?

If you feel ok, go for it. If you start to feel crappy, stop.

If you work out at a lower intensity, you should be fine.

Just don't over do it. I've found if I do too intense of a workout when I'm getting over a cold, it'll trigger coughing fits. Don't know if that is the same for everyone.
  • Of course you can still exercise,
Exercise isn't like scuba diving where you can't ¬.¬

Yep. Above the neck: ok to work out. Below the neck: better off resting.

Above would be cold, sinus infection, stuffy nose, etc. Below would be deep chesty cough, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.

    Hope you feel better soon!

A little activity is okay IMO, but rest is more important. Resting will allow your body to put the energy toward your immune system.

My rule of thumb as well. With the exception of, if you are sick then stay out of the gym. Work out at home or somewhere else where you are not gonna pass it to someone else.
