HUGE discrepancy in calories - grapes.

I weighed 76 grapes at 506 grams. If I select grapes, raw, 5.06 of 100g, I get 339 calories. If I select grapes, raw, 76 grapes, I get 122 calories. Are my grapes really that huge? How small do the grapes have to be in order to count as that little calories? Which is more accurate? Thanks! :)

wow would like to see how to do this. I always just put it by grape and thats a big amount of calories not being counted.

i usually go with the grams measurement because it seems more accurate the weigh something rather than count it out, but that's just my opinion.
  • I agree, the safest way to take into account the size of grapes is enter it by weight, not by individual grape.

I figured this out a while ago and was shocked. It doesn't only apply to grapes. For example, in the database, a "small banana" has to be like 80 grams, which is about 2/3 of what I would consider a small banana. That's why I always weigh my food out.

It's true. I used to count them and then started weighing... some grapes in the stores are huge... esp jumbo grapes :P MFP is correct and entering grapes by the number is for small grapes.

It also helps to put your own recipe's in. My recipe doesn't match up at all with some of these things eg: gingerbread man cookie. You can save, or fool yourself up to 200 calories!
  • Be careful with consuming too many grapes. Lots of sugar in the little beauties. Not to say what it does to your glycemic index.

Well, that's like 3X the calories, which means they consider a grape a third of the size of my grapes. That's not a grape, that's a raisin.
