Situational "starving"

Im 500 calories under today (including 166 from exercise) and the site is warning me ill go into starvation mode...but im NOT hungry...and now its 900. what do you do if you just arent hungry? should i go and force myself to eat 500 calories from my pantry?!

If this is a every-now-and-again type of thing that doesn't happen very often, I think you'll be fine. I believe it takes several days of you being under to do any "damage". Also, do you have your weight loss set at? If you have it set at 2 lbs per week you would have to watch it much more than if you had it set at a half lb. That is because of the deficit that MFP sets when giving you your goal is larger when you have it set to lose the higher amounts.
I would not force feed myself. That sets up bad habits. Just plan/do better from here on out and you'll be fine.

thanks! mine is set at 1 lb. i have the joyful TOM and im just not hungry lol usually though, i have to be very careful and watchful of what i do eat lol0

Same thing happened to me. I got up to around 950 and needed at least 100 more to be somewhere near my goal of 1200. I try not to ever go below 1000. (It's hard to get EXACTLY 1200, ya know? Lol) I wasn't hungry, but I thought I'd try to eat anyways. It wasn't much, just a piece of cheese on a piece of bread. I hate wheat and all those light white breads, so one slice of bread for me is 60 calories. (It's worth it my taste buds' opinions.) Then, a slice of 2% kraft cheese was 45 calories. Just eating a little something revved up my appetite again. What I'm trying to say is that you might want to go home and try eating just a bit. If you're still not hungry, then it's no problem. One day under isn't going to send you into starvation mode. Don't worry about it.0

I agree. Whether I am right or not...I have no idea...lol. I several small meals a day...but usually never get to my calories....if I was starving...shouldn't my body let me know???0

I am in this category too and I feel like they put me at 1500 calories and i hardly EVER eat that much. I think as long as youre on track and exercising, youre probably on the right track. I am continually under but havent lost anything yet :-/ so i dont know lol. Good luck to both of us!0

I'm in the same boat......I do not eat all of my calories, and I don't feel hungry. I drink a TON of water each day, eat healthily (usually), but can't seem to reach my 1200 calories/day (before exercise). I say: Don't force yourself. If you aren't hungry, then why eat? Food is fuel for your body. No more, no less.0

I'm in the same boat especially on days when I go to the gym. I find it hard to eat back the calories. You should be eating more than 1000 calories a day though because it can slow your metabolism down. I work out pretty intensely some days and work off just about as much as I ate for lunch and breakfast and find it hard to eat a bunch at night. But i'm glad I'm not the only one I guess..0

I totally understand the feeling. I agree with not forcing yourself to eat..if you're hungry, your body will let you know! BUT, as far as your health and metabolism go, I wouldn't go TOO far under 1200 calories ALL the time.0

If it's just a one-off, don't worry about it, especially if your belly is upset by your period. Your body is probably having a little wtf? moment, but you're not going to do any long-term damage by being under so much on one day.0

Never go under the calories as posted because it will affect your weight loss. When you do eat enough your body will hold onto all the calories thus slowing your metabolism and making it real hard to lose the weight.0

One time will not affect you. It would have to be a regular occurring thing to happen.
If that is the case, then days when you have been sick and have eaten soup and such would have done this to all of us a long time ago.0
