Important read about "starvation mode"

I definitely appreciated reading this. There are so many contradicting articles and an obscene amount of advice that it can become quiet confusing. Thank you for breaking everything down in a simple, yet concise article!0

I have to bump this thread. People toss around "starvation mode" as if eating under your calorie count once or twice will hurt anything. Unless you are literally STARVING and have little to no food intake over a PERIOD OF TIME, it is VERY unlikely you will experience starvation mode aka Adaptive Thermogenesis. Unhealthy, yes...starvation, no.0

Thank you for the time you have spent in sharing this information with us. Good read and I will take note0

I'm just reading this now.. thanks! I was worrying today bc I ate a little less than 1200 calories & worked off 450 so I was worried that I might put my body into starvation mode and not take off any weight haha. I see you posted that a few months ago so I hope since then you've reached your goal, or have gotten close to it.0

Yes, I'm so thankful for this post! I cringe every time I see reference of going into starvation mode over a slight decrease in caloric intake.0

I stopped worrying about the starvation mode when I read that it occurs at the point where you have no fat left to burn. Only then will the body begin to break down muscles for energy. Plenty of fat to burn in my body :grumble:0

bummer, I was hoping for an update from OP as to progress.
Because there is more research that shows while some of the myths concerning starvation mode are false, the basic premise that your body will adjust is fact.
Recent study results on just how metabolically efficient you can make yourself become, requiring less eating then you might like.

Another description of what you can do to yourself.

And another study of how long they think the effects last, and more of the why behind it. The more recent study on by blog at least indicates you can recover somewhat over months of time eating at maintenance, as suppressed as it may be.

And how it can affect women specifically, and some similar side effects on men and their exercise and improvements.

Great information and very timely as I have stalled very early in my weight loss. I need to listen to my body more and not worry about the "numbers so much!0
