Drinking Water During Workout

Okay may be silly question, but I find that I get really thirsty when working out. Is it okay to stop and take a drink or should I just push through and drink down when I'm done. Sometimes the water does a little jiggle in my belly while working out and can be annoying.
Ha just curious!

Why wouldn't it be ok?0 -
I walk every night with my husband around town and it has hills like you would not believe. But i always make it a point to stop at a certain point and take a few sips of water. I don't guzzle a whole bottle but just enough to wet my mouth and re-hydrate. If you drink to much to fast it can make you sick and feel sluggish.0

I drink constantly before/during/after a work out if your body is properly hydrated you will last longer0

I run outside and I don't carry water with me for several reasons, I really dislike carrying things in my hands when I'm running, my short runs I don't really need the water, my longer runs I'm lucky that I have access to a forest and I run 6 or 7 mile loops round the forest and will carry water in the car and stop to get a drink before carrying on.
When I'm in the gym for weights or PT I drink water more between the sets/circuits, I feel it depends on how much I'm doing will depend on whither I want water sloshing about in my stomach, try it and find out.
I was advised by my trainer not to drink more than 3ltrs of water a day as it can start to lower sodium levels (I think) and cause issues when you're exercising hard, but you have to drink a hell of a lot of water for it to get to that stage.0 -
Yes, hydration is important. If you get the jiggle belly feeling you are probably drinking alot too fast. If I am doing a short workout (20-30 mins) I can usually make it through without water but if its longer, especially when its hot, I gotta rehydrate. Try to plan ahead and take small sips as you go starting early on, then you hopefully will head off the super thirsty feeling and avoid the desire to guzzle.0

What does your common sense tell you?0 -
Hello! Yes, you should try to drink water or a sports drink during your workouts. Muscles work much better when the cells are well hydrated. Depending on the intensity of your workout, your body might need some fuel to get through. This is why sports drinks like Gatorade contain sugar/carbs, too. If you drink coffee, green tea, caffein-containing pre-workout or take anything like water pills, they will dehydrate, and you'll have to make up for this. A high protein diet requires a higher water intake, too. Take small sips and drink up! Have fun!0

I guess it depends on what I'm doing.
If I am in a class- maybe- if they offer a break- or if I'm having dry mouth/throat issues.
If I'm running- usually not.
If I'm lifting- I drink all the time.0 -
I always hydrate before, during and after working out. That goes for lifting and any running or cardio classes. If you think you are thirsty or feel the need for water, you are probably not hydrated enough. Drink up! :drinker:0

Water is important! I too drink before, during and after a workout.. specially after a workout. I don't drink too much during though, because I find I get stitches if I drink a lot.0

Drink! It does a body good. You'll find your balance.
Good luck!0 -
I am always drinking water during my workouts .... you need to hydrate yourself.0

For optimal performance, drink before you get thirsty. Have a sip when you notice you are sweating. A lot of bodily functions are signalled to switched on/off as a result of salt concentration levels, so you need to stay properly hydrated for you body to function well.0

Yes you should. I always drink while working out. I usually down 24 oz in less than one hour of workouts. You must stay hydrated!0

Nothing wrong with drinking water during a workout, in my opinion.0
