Why have I gained almost a stone?

Okay..so I don't know if this was gradual or it just happened overnight..but I've gained a stone. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I've been doing pilates. When I weighed myself yesterday I was SO upset and crying like why did I gain this much I've been healthy? I don't see any difference in my body. I seriously don't know what happened. Are my scales broken? I hate gaining weight and I'm so scared I've gained :( can someone help me or tell me why this happened? Thank you. Btw, I had no clothes on when I weigh myself ...haha

1 stone is like 14 lbs right?

That is a lot of weight to just be fluctuation.

You are either are eating more than you think or you are overestimating your burned calories.

I'll assume that Google is correct and a stone is 14 lbs or about 6 kg. That's more that a typical daily variance. You can expect your weight to vary as much as 4-6 lbs (2-3kg/.4 stone) on a daily basis depending on all kinds of variables. So first, you may not have gained that much to begin with.

Next, how often are you weighing yourself. Chances are you are weighing yourself too much. Weekly is plenty. Be sure to do it on the same day, same time every week. Be consistent so you can get a better idea of which direction you are going.

Last, stop caring about the number on the scale. Measure yourself and use your clothes as a guide. If your closes are fitting looser and you look trimmer, who cares what the number is? I gained 6 lbs (on purpose) and my pants are looser now than they were then.

All that said, if you have actually gained weight, then there is only one possibility - you are eating more calories than you are using. You may be under reporting your intake (you weigh your food right?) or over reporting your exercise. Tracking calorie intake and expenditure is inexact at best. If you are gaining, then you need to make adjustments until you are not. Adjust your goals until your weight loss matches the expected outcome.

Scales can give different readings if you move them around, knock the tare dial, they are uneven etc. So Step 1 is to make sure it is level and reading zero correctly. The leave it where it is.

Step 2 is to double check your intake/output. If you are gaining weight, you are eating more than you burn.
