Kevin Trudeau gets 10 years for weight loss lies
Read an article today. Never heard of the guy, but the author of "The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About" and other ridiculous books with similar titles, got sentenced to 10 years today for "bilking cunsumers through ubiquitous infomercials for his book - "The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About".
Evidently he had ignored a 2004 court order barring him from running false ads about the weight loss book. "Trudeau aired the infomercial 32,000 times" - literally (that is a quote from the article). "He has treated federal court orders as if they were mere suggestions"...
The article said "Trudeau's weight loss book describes a grueling 500 calorie-a-day diet, as well as hormone treatments"... but Trudeau's infomercials misrepresneted the contents of the book as laying out a "simple, no hunger... diet-free method of losing weight," which enticed more people to buy the book". Evidently the book was on the best seller list forever. He made $39 million, got fined $37 million...
Anyway, there it is...
Setting a precedence for lying about a product. I don't think it is a bad thing. Selling is one thing. Complete deception/lying is different, well, for most people
I saw the article in a few places...

Um, I am very glad he's getting his comeuppance, but is everyone else here also thinking about how many other publications they have seen that could/should get the same treatment? I'm not just talking about basic lies, but life-damaging, selfish lies built on big profits. Like that *kitten* Frank DeStefano who got a huge number of people avoid vaccines fearing autism?0
