Putting away the scale!

So, I don't know about all of you out there, but I like to weigh-in every single day after my work out. I love seeing the changes; it's a boost of motivation for me. However, I haven't been losing as much as I would like to lately and it has put me in a pretty bad mood almost daily, which not only affects me but also makes my boyfriend pretty frustrated.

I did go ahead and weigh-in today and I was the lowest I have been so far though! So I've decided I'm going to challenge myself to not weigh myself again until Friday at the very earliest! I know this will be a bit of a struggle, but I think it will help me in the long run.

Do you guys weigh yourselves everyday and experience these same disappointments I've been going through for the past week?

  • Girl, I was just thinking today that it seems like you're always losing weight.
Your update always comes across my newsfeed saying you've lost. I think you're doing great!
Just remembering how much your weight can fluctuate through one day should help you feel better ;)

Agree everyday weigh-in is addictive and can be disappointing as well. When I post a nice loss it is discouraging to see it see-saw up and down even if the trend is happily downward overall. I'll try it with you - no more scales till Friday. Ooo - scary :noway:

I weigh in twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. It's often enough that I can track what's going on with my weight loss in relation to my habits over the past few days, but it's not often enough that I really pick up those daily fluctuations.

Put that scale AWAY, girl. I was weighing myself constantly and it drives a person trying to loose weight mad! So now I just mark the calendar that I have in my room on the dates I should weigh myself. I have it marked for every 2 weeks. I also have placed the scale in an area that is not visible to the eye because sometimes just seeing that scale reminds me "oh, let me weigh myself". This has helped and over time that urge to weigh myself every day is not there anymore. Also remember that on a daily basis our weight can fluctuate about 5 lbs. SO, in order to not get down on yourself like I used to, do try your very best to not weigh in everyday. It can disappoint, stress, and can make you want to give up.

I'm probably extreme compared to most, but I don't weigh myself at all. For me, I know that I would become obsessed and would get too wrapped up in seeing a particular number. I can't let myself get to the point where I only can feel good about myself due to a certain number on the scale. I'm highly critical of myself and have some perfectionist characteristics, so I avoid weighing myself and just go based off of how I personally feel and how my clothes fit.
  • I made this same promise to myslef this morning! Scale going up and down one to three pounds but making no real progress. Everyday weighing getting frustrating. Plus the time of month it is makes the numbers that much more meaningless. I am going to TRY to weigh in once a week, on Friday at the same time each Friday and judge my progress that way! We'll see how that works (cause as I write this I'm wondering if the scale here at work will be any different than at home, even though I know it never is)
  • Weighing once a week is what I have found to be most helpful. I notice it's easy for me to get addicted to weighing myself. I don't feel healthy when I do that. I feel obsessive and neurotic about my weight. I have to remind myself I want a lifestyle change and to feel better about myself - not a number. Once a week is sufficient for me, and I find I'm excited to weigh myself instead of nervous about what I'm going to see. ;D
  • I weigh in every day as soon as I wake up in the morning. And you're right, it's up and down, up and down. Very frustrating. But also addictive, I can't seem to stop. I would like to weigh in every 10 days to two weeks. Trying to get there!

I was a slave to my scale, then a wise mentor told me to weigh myself once a week, the same day at the same time, unclothed. Sundays at 8 am works best for me. He also taught me the scale is not the true measurer of progress/results. It is a measuring tape, its how my clothes fit.. Working out tones you, builds muscle and muscle will shows on the scale. Dont get discouraged on what a little needle/electronic displays says..Look in the mirror, you will see your progress. So put away the scale until next week.. I actually hide mine in my closet

Wow that is really intense and amusing. I bet we would all be better off not weighing in at all but it's just another way to measure success. Unfortunately it is quite an addicting one. More power to ya girl!

Great! We can do it. I know, the scale is still sitting here in the floor of my room and it is very tempting, but so far I have managed to stay away. And about the meaningless weigh-in week...I'm right there with you! That's why I decided it would be a good time to try this.

Sounds great! and scary i agree haha. I think it will be worth it in the end though. I think we will be happier with the results we see then! Good luck this week!
