    Do you have any tattoos?
I have several and I can tell you only one thing. The back piece I have was fine for me except on my spine. It was a full on holding my breathe part of it. The thinner you are the more spine and ribs hurt too! Lol

This is what I do. Print out a pic of the tattoo you want and frame it over your bed. If you still like it a month from now after looking at it everyday, get it!

Personally. I don't like the look of just that. Part of a bigger picture? Yeah...

What if it comes out off-center?

I don't have one on my spine, but on my lower leg. The parts closest to the shin bone did hurt much worse, and I hear the same about ankle bones. So anything over a bone that's close to the surface will hurt more. But it depends on your motivation and pain tolerance :) If you love it and have something meaningful to say that will be with you the rest of your life, do it!

Something like this would look better on you, in my opinion.

It's a bit low, but she probably put it there so it's visible with shorts on. She's tan, whereas the upper girl is pale.

In my eyes, It's less awkward than "Turn around so I can see your tattoo."

    It's beautiful!

But one of my close friends is a tattoo artist (an ah-mazing tattoo artist, btw). He told me that back tattoos are really great except for the fact that you can't see it. Meaning, you can't look in the mirror every day and easily see this beautiful ink you've had done.

Thanks for your honest opinion :) The quote I have picked out, I've loved for a longgg time now. The location is pretty new. I will think about this location some more.

For a first tattoo, I would recommend getting somewhere less painful. It all depends on your pain tolerance though.

I have tattoos on my ribs, side of my hip/butt, and the back of my neck. When I got the tattoo on my ribs, the artist warned me the ribs are one of the most painful spots. I was really worried but it ended up being my least painful tattoo and I was roughly 110-115 lbs when I got it done.

Tattoos on the bone hurt the most. The thinner you are, the more it will hurt.

Just remember to breathe. People tend to forget to breathe when they are getting tattooed which makes them panic more. Concentrating on your breathing is most important.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

ETA: Here is mine. It is a quote as well. Maybe you will like this location.

I think it's cool as hell.
But what I think doesn't really matter, it's an expression of yourself so the only person that has to be happy with it is YOU.
If you like it then I say go for it and nothing else really matters.

Will it look good sideways? Is it long/short enough to fit in that space?

Mine said the same thing. I didn't think the ribs were that bad, except when it hit the breast tissue. I think the most painful spots for me were right below my ankle bone on the side of my heel, and my Achilles tendon.

I have thought about that location. It's actually one of the 3 locations I've thought of for the tattoo I want. Great quote btw.

I'm not sure if it will look good sideways. It's a pretty short quote. Only about 5 words!
