  • Hi , I am a Triathlete and mountain biker . I have used heart rate monitors for many years of several different brands. Although I can,t recommend a model , I would suggest using One made by Polar . They are very reliable and are comparable with most gym machines.

If you are only intending using it for weight training then it's a total waste of money.
HRMs are for training aids for cardio and are only really suitable to give an estimated calorie burn for steady state cardio.
Calorie burns from weight training are not related to heart rate. You need to remember that HRMs count heart beats - they cannot measure energy.

There are so many variables in weight training (weight, reps, intensity, time under tension, rest between sets, after-burn....) that estimating is somewhere between very hard to impossible.
