Upped my calories and now losing!

I had gained almost 10 pounds over last year despite working out more than ever. Bad food choices sometimes, partying etc. I dropped my calories to 1200 and got really sick and tired. I then read about upping them in a nutritious way and eat about 2000-2600 calories of mainly good carbs and protein and good fats, and now I am losing again! I work out for about 3 hours a day and burn 800-1000 calories a day so in effect I am keeping a level of 1600 calories. It's working for me! And my body fat is dropping too - hoorah! :) Thought this might help anyone worried about upping calories and eating those workout calories back. Good luck everyone. :)

Great call on upping your Calories! - I ate 1200 for a lot of 2013, and had to retrain myself to eat enough to gain some muscle mass!
Im jealous of you dropping lbs at 2000 calories though! - I eat at1600-1800 to lose weight, including lifting and fasted cardio!

I am just starting to increase my calories. I plateaued for 9 months. How long did it take for your body to reboot itself so that you started losing again from when you upped your calories? I just want to get an idea of the time frame. I know that it is not immediately. Thanks

If that was for me, I added 200 calories per week until I was at my maintenance levels (1800-ish) then I stayed there for a month, and now I've dropped 200 calories a day (1600ish) and I lose around 1lb a week, with exercise

Michael Robins - I think I was typing while you were posting, but thank you as you have answered my question. I was figuring 4 - 6 weeks, but wasn't sure. I do not want to derail myself again.

Glad to hear you're achieving your goals by eating more, but is there any particular reason you're working out so much? You risk overtraining and injury if you do that much every day, especially if you don't take rest days.

That's a heck of a lot of exercise! I'm getting tired just reading that. Glad you found a better method and are fueling your work outs.

I highly recommend you seeing a doctor, no way a 19 year old males maintenance should be 1800 calories per day, unless you're 5'1"!

Congrats! I started at the 1200 calories, increased activity (not exercise) then as adding exercise ate back some of those calories. Now I do 1200 calories only if I have a day where I really don't feel like eating and adjust my activity accordingly. I'm also doing 1000 calorie burn daily which takes me about 2 hours without factoring in the time it takes me to reach my 10,000 step goal. I'd like to reduce the amount of time to get that burn. I'm doing stairs and elliptical for cardio, calisthenics strength (dumbbells, resistance band, medicine ball, weighted stability ball), aerobics and a little yoga. What are you doing for your work-outs?

Same here! I only upped it this week but I'm already seeing the scales go down after 2 weeks of nothing :)
