Weekend Sabotage

Is it me or do the weekdays seem easy to track, plan meals, and work out? For me, once it gets to be Friday evening, I'm tired and craving junk food. I don't have the energy to get off my butt and cook something healthy. Last weekend, I ended up ordering pizza and cracking open a beer (not light beer either). Any people going through the same thing as me? I'm trying to find motivation to prevent this from happening. If I lose a pound or two between Monday and Friday, I seem to gain it right back Saturday and Sunday. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!

I'm exactly the same! There is always some party or function to go to and I end up eating bad and drinking and then I'm too tired to exercise. I have no will power :(

That happens to everybody sometimes. It happens to me a lot too. I try not to beat myself up about it. I go on and try to make better choices afterwards. I personally think that if you don't give in to something that tastes good sometimes, you won't stick to your healthy choices long term because you will feel too confined by the lifestyle.
One bad choice doesn't mean you failed. It just means you have to run a little further, swim another lap, lift another weight, or do another set of burpees. No big deal.

    Then eat broccoli.

Check your goals, When I first started on this site I set my weight loss to 2pounds per week loss, this made my week day calories very low and I ended up scoffing on weekends cause I was just TOO damn hungry. What I lost during the week I gained on the weekend.

If it is not that, it comes down to willpower. It is tough, Ive been logging for over 200 days and some weekends I still slip up. I have to really make an effort to stick to my goals.

You could also try saving up some exercise calories or even food calories during the week for the weekend?

I used to have a real problem with this too. It helps to get in the habit of planning all of your meals for the week, including the weekends. If you're always tired on Friday, either plan for pizza and beer or maybe look into some good crock pot recipes so you have dinner already made when you get home. Or come up with other quick and easy dinners. Last night I made shake n bake pork chops with stove top and green beans and it took hardly any time or energy. Not super healthy but not as bad as pizza either...you gotta pick your battles.

No, you are definitely not alone in this. It is human nature to not want to feel deprived. If you just keep losing and regaining the same weight and it's not going to go anywhere, then you'll eventually quit. Are you eating too little during your day? How many calories are you eating to feel so deprived? I eat very low one day, and the next eat at my TDEE/maintenance so I can satisfy any cravings I might be having, while averaging out at the end of the week to a number that will help me lose. If you can't do that, fill up on more protein. Soups fill you up for very little calories, leaving room for a piece or two of dark chocolate, or a croissant in the morning. If you deprive yourself it only ends up with overindulging, so leave yourself room to treat yourself. Ask yourself "What's the least amount of this I can have and still feel satisfied?" and cut it off there. Good luck.

    I order pizza regularly XD

I deny myself nothing - but I also won't skip on the gym. Weekends the gym is usually more empty (go figure) so I love going first thing Saturday and Sunday mornings to lift weights and knock out some cardio. Sets me up for a great weekend where I can go ahead and go out and have that drink if I want and not feel guilty. Get the workouts in, log the food, forgive if it's a bit over. Weekends are made for fun!

If I know I'm going to be too tired or busy to cook on Friday, I make something healthy and re-heatable on Wednesday or Thursday so there will be leftovers waiting for me. Soup, frittata, etc. That way I still have calories left for dumplings and cocktails when I go out on the weekend!

I am the opposite. I am so busy on the weekends that they are easier than the weekdays. Once dinner is over and I have a couple of hours, I want to sit, relax and snack on pita chips and popcorn and other stuff (I do have 1 serving but really want 5) while watching TV or surfing the net so I have to come up with other stuff to do.

We meal plan so I know what is coming in terms of food (and we meal plan pizza nights/mexican nights too :) ). I incorporate my fav foods during the week but down time is a killer for me. And, TBH, carrots and other crunchy veggies just don't cut it soemtimes.

Isn't it funny how everyone is different?

Wow, you guys rock! Thanks for the support and letting me know that I'm not alone. What I need to do is track my food, no matter what. Putting it out there online will probably keep me from going completely crazy. Thanks everyone!

I feel the easiest way to avoid the weekend 'lazys' is to cook extra on Thursday night ! That takes care of Friday !

When it comes to the Saturdays, whether you sleep in or relax at home, go for food that wont take long too cook and isn't a lot of prep.
Ie. on Wednesday or Thursday make sure you swing by the grocery store - grab veggies you can steam - like brussells or asparagus and purchase frozen fish ... fish is easy, you can put garlic/lemon juice and pop it in the oven.
The other option is to purchase single chicken breasts or fish from M &M's ....

If I don't feel like cooking AT ALL - I always keep tuna on hand, its easy to whip up a can with mayo, pop some lettuce or argula on it, pare it with some plain lays chips or low cal soup and call it dinner lol

Its all about being prepared :) You can even prep salad ingredients and have them ready for a few days prior to make a big salad - you can get your protein by putting almonds and sunflower seeds and or quinoa in

I'm right there with you! :-0
In fact, that's what I had last Friday - Pizza and beer :-0 The sodium also puts the lbs on, which is depressing even if it is temporary.
