Herbalife versus protein shakes

I'm not too educated on how herbalife works or what it really is, but I do get the jist of two shakes a day and a sensible meal. Would two protein shakes instead of herbalife work the same? I don't want to spend any extra money on something if I have a good enough substitute. Thanks!

I have been taking Herbalife for a while, but not for losing weight more for avoiding breakfast. My understanding is that Herbalife will give you all the nutrients you need, except protein and the protein shake gives you the protein but not the vitamins.

Whether you want to fork out the money for Herbalife is a personal choice. They cost a lot, taste good, but you can get similar results by eating proper, calorie low food. I found Herbalife Vanilla breakfast drinks NOT filling. I always mixed it with some fruits and e.g. Weetabix.

These days I sometimes take a Herbalife drink in the morning for convenience, but not on a regular basis. I have bought myself a Blendtec blender and make myself spinach smoothies for breakfast with some protein vanilla powder. Tastes equally good and is cheaper.

    Not sure this helps?

I won't jump the gun and assume you're trying to be a smartass. If you are not, then clearly no, I am not opposed to real food. I didn't ask about a liquid diet. I know my weaknesses, capabilities, and the way my psyche works, so I am asking about these programs for a reason. Thanks.

If you're specifically looking for something to use as a meal replacement, you have to be very careful when choosing a product. Most protein supplements are not adequate meal replacements because they are not nutritionally balanced and don't contain the macro and micro nutrients that your body needs. They are only meant to add more protein to an already balanced diet.

If you're going to replace eating food with a shake or supplement, you need to make sure it is intended as a meal replacement and contains plenty of vitamins and minerals.

I just want to add that the only reason why meal replacements work for weight loss is because they force you into a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit can absolutely be achieved by eating real food, but if you prefer to use meal replacements, that's your choice. Just keep in mind that if you do reach your goal weight using meal replacements, you still have to put in the time and effort to learn healthy and sustainable eating habits in order to maintain your goal weight.
