PCOS, low carb, new girl - Hi everyone!

Quite nervous to post but going to do it anyway.
A few years ago I found an old journal tucked away in the back of my closet in my parents’ home. It was from when I was 8; I wrote all over one of the pages several variations of “you are a fat pig!!!” I cried when I found it, mostly because that means this struggle has been ongoing for almost 20 years now. I am ready for it to end.
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 or 16 and have actively ignored it until recently. I was not naive and hoping it would go away on its own; I was scared. PCOS has been ravaging my body for over ten years now and I’ve been (literally) feeding the beast. I am trying to fix my mistakes through a low carb ketogenic lifestyle, although I'm easing my way into it as I continue to do research. I do believe keto is right for me because I am insulin resistant. I have dieted on and off since I was 10 and nothing ever stuck, but maybe this will since I am finally doing it for the right reasons. I am ready to be healthy.
I also have severe depression and anxiety; I know these are tied to my weight and PCOS. I have missed out on a multitude of opportunities and experiences to date because of my size. It has become exhausting and debilitating to have constant anxiety related to my size. Because of these daily fears and thoughts, my depression has spiraled out of control. I am isolated hundreds of miles from all family and friends (I moved for my career about a year ago and have not made one local friend to date). This constant negativity has depleted my interests, happiness, motivation and zest for life. I am hopeful that healthy changes will help me with these issues. I am too young to fall victim to my circumstances - I need to fight for myself. I am ready to be happy.
Sorry that ended up being so long-winded. I have my profile private for now but would love to make some friends on here. I've been lurking for days and tracking for 2 weeks now; the support and motivation from the community has been great. Cheers and good luck to all.

I know all about what you went through when you were younger.
I was told by a doctor (not my stupid doctor at the time) that I had PCOS when I was about 19 or 20, but had had it since 13 or 14. My Mum used to show me how to use an girl's electric razor on my chin to cut the facial hairs from my face EVERYDAY. It was just awful.
I used to eat tons of chocolate and sugary things. Thankfully, I didn't get diabetes, but it does run in the family, and I still love chocolate (am now 31 yo).
Nowadays, I go to my lovely beautician for the last 7years, using waxing every 6 weeks to take the hairs away. It looks really good. Also, my chocolate consumption isn't as bad as it was (am off Chocolate for Lent, which hasn't been as difficult as I thought it would be).
I have lost 56lbs since May 2013, and not cutting out carbs, but have lessened them, and eat more protein and good fats. I don't believe in diets, just eating in moderation of what you love.
Love yourself, love your body, love your life xx0 -
