I've signed up for my first 5K, Thundering Hooves in MD. I jog really slowly and I don't want to finish last. Anyone have good tips or stories about your first 5K?

I doubt you will be last. Usually most 5K races have a lot of walkers. You could try to find last years results if you want to compare paces. Just have fun. It looks like a great trail run. I wish I could run it too.0

Start out slow, see how it feels, and increase your speed as you go along. Wear clothes you've worn before that you are comfortable in. Don't try a new outfit. Most importantly, have fun!0

Try not to overdo it in the beginning despite the adrenaline rush. Keep reminding yourself to slow down.
Oh, and bring a throwaway hoodie.0
