Hi. My name is Sarah. I am 360 lbs. at 5'2". I need to drop 15 lbs. before May 8th. I am going to be getting bariatric surgery soon I hope, and that will help tremendously. But until then, I need to "diet" I want to be 345-350 before May 8th when I would get clearance to see the surgeon and get a surgery date. That's my goal for now. After that My goal will be 225-230 lbs. I would like to get to 120. But realistically it might not happen for me, even with surgery. As long as I am no more than about 180 I will be good with myself. ) How about you all? Anyone out there need over a 100+ weight loss goal?? Add me please. Anyone from Rochester, NY area? Brockport, NY? Hamlin, NY? Those areas? I'm here to talk to and support everyone. Just would be nice to talk to ppl who need to lose so much and that are local as well. Add me if you would like. Anyone. ) Ty for reading my post. Wish me Luck!! xo

Hi Sarah,
I am of a similar weight. I am 46 & have been overweight all my life.
I have always just gotten heavier & heavier with each passing year & diet.
I started Weight Watchers again at the beginning of this year & happily for me its going well at the moment.
What's probably helping is that my husband & best friend/cousin are doing it as well.
Between us all we have lost about 6 stone since the start of the year.
At the moment my will power is really strong but I know from experience that will waver but I am trying to be very aware of how I am feeling & what is keeping so focused just now so that when I do start to slip & can try & take control back.
What diet are you going to do to lose the weight for the surgery ?
Here in Scotland where I live the surgery you speak of is not available in my area on the NHS - I did approach my doctor about it a few years ago & he was very supportive of me getting it but it wouldn't have been funded.
Good luck with your weight loss & surgery.

Hi Sarah,
I was 432 at my highest weight. I am now 359, but it's taken me roughly two years to lose that (backsliding at several points). I am leaning towards having surgery and have done all the hoop jumping, although I have second thoughts now and then. But the more weight you can lose before surgery, the better.
For me, what worked best was strength training combined with a low carb high fat diet. I did my homework and found that it works really well for me, but it's not easy and not everyone is on board with it (including my doctors, at times). While it's not easy, it's not easy being so heavy either. I feel for you.
Good luck!

I started at somewhere around 350 (my scale wouldn't weigh me when I was above 334). I am now under 260 currently (10 months into my journey) I only promised myself to eat regular food in reasonable portions, eat extra veggies to help fill me up, and to stop my nonsense with binging on junk food. Because I was eating well, I wasn't overly hungry and I was able to beat the binging. A few months ago I started walking, making sure I get my 10,000 steps a day. Little by little I've changed bad habits to good ones.
Feel free to add me or look at my food diary. You'll see I still eat a lot of food (and it's real, normal food). Anyone can do this, you just have to start small and change one small thing at a time.0 -
Hey Mags,
I am going to try to eat under 1800 calories a day, while watching sugar, carbs, fat, and sodium. I have tried WW 3 times myself. Best I did was lose 25 lbs. How many lbs. Is 6 stone? I was familiar with that, but have forgotten. I too have been overweight most my life. I am so happy to have a Scottish friend. I want to take my mom one day. When I switched doctors, my new one suggested from day 1 that I “NEED" the surgery. I considered it many years. I am 36 now, n want to live a healthier n longer life. Good job in sticking with the weight loss. I know its hard. Do u have Facebook?0 -
Thanks Margaret! I know none of it is easy. Good luck on your journey. U have fb?0

Good luck Sarah!
You should be able to lose the weight on this site just by staying at your calorie goal.
When I first started, I ate whatever I wanted... as long as it was in my calorie goal, so for example, I ate fast foods and desserts. Unfortunately they would take up around half of my days calories. The good thing is I kept busy for most of the day so it was easy to do. Also, I dropped a lot of weight!
Now I'm more focused on a life style change and have focused more on my macronutrients: proteins, (which you will need a lot of after your surgery) fats and carbs. I am able to eat 5 times a day most days like this and am seeing a physical body change.
i'd suggest you start attempting to eat the way you are going to be eating after your surgery; proteins, vegetables, start avoiding sodas and all of that. This will show you how you are going to live for the rest of your life.
Rooting for you!!0 -
Best of luck on your journey! I too have a long road of weight loss to look forward to...:)
I hope you are able to attain your goals!! I know you can do it0 -
Welcome,
I have lost 138 lbs , 115 lbs since joing mfp over 3 yrs ago. It is slow, my best advice is to make smalk goals and dont give up0 -
You will lose plenty of weight with no exercise at 1800cals. - thats a good safe number by the way for someone your age and body size.
Read this thread:

Women can chronically under eat in the believe it will help them lose more weight. This isn't necessarily true.
All the best with your journey.0 -
I'm here to support you. You just need to start out by tracking what you eat and then incorporate a little exercise! You can do this!!0
-
Hello,
I would suggest that you incorporate exercise whenever you can to support you in your efforts. One thing that has proven successful for me is to park further away when traveling to work. The walk results in 20 minutes of exercise, daily. When I added a 30 minute walk around the track, it gave me 732 additional calories that I could use for the day.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks erihppas! I am going to buy some things I will be eating after surgery. One, to try the diet out and kinda get into a routine. Plus, to help keep me under calories. I eat alot of veggies now, apples n bananas as well. Eggs, chicken, tuna, fish, sometimes pork srpteaks/chops. I plan on pureeing everything I eat. I do not want to take a chance of blockages n stricture. Well OK not everything. It will be nice to eat something regularly, and to chew very well. :-) thank u!!0

Hello Sarah,
sorry for taken so long to get back to you. I used to have a FB but haven't been on it for some time now.
I don't come on here very often as I do use the WW boards more.
Hope you are doing well & managing to lose.
For once in my life I seem to be managing really well on this diet.
I am constantly thinking about it all & I think that's what's keeping me on .
My Hubby & Daughter (nearly 15) are so supportive and I am trying to eat 'normal' so that when I get to where I want to be I can carry on just as I am doing just now.
I am really feeling the benefits as I am much more mobile and my mood is definitely improving too.
Although I don't do FB anymore I will be popping on here every so often so it would be nice to catch up on how you are doing if that's ok.
