Recommendations for Heart Rate Monitor

Hi,

I'm so close to getting to my maintenance goal. Right now, as I'm losing I don't eat my exercise calories back, because I've set my activity level to lightly active and also my calories burnt are sort of an estimate. However, when I get into maintenance I am going to set it to sedentary and then eat back my exercise calories so obviously I need it to be fairly accurate.

Basically, can anyone suggest a not too expensive heart rate monitor: I'm thinking less than £50.

Thanks guys.

I'm just going to cut and paste an answer to exactly the same question from earlier this morning :)

OK, in that case it's worth looking into the strengths and weaknesses of an HRM to identify whether it'll give you what you want. They're designed for use in situations where your HR is stable or transitioning reasonably smoothly. From the HR reading, and informed by your age, gender, weight etc they'll extrapolate an approximation of calorie usage. The accuracy of that approximation will vary quite significantly.

It'll give you a figure, but the more intermittent or stop/ start a session is the less meaningful that figure becomes.

Notwithstanding that I use a Polar FT60. I run, cycle and row and tend to use it more to monitor my HR as I'm training, judge my recovery time when I finish, and my recovery from higher intensity intervals. The calorie count is always secondary for me.

    Hi,
I've been using this one for about a week now: https://www.shoppolar.com/accessories//p-92044305 and it works great. It may feel a little awkward at first (strapping it on your chest) but a few days of it you get used to it. It appears to be pretty accurate as well. It syncs with the Polar app you can download on your smart phone, assuming you have one.

Hope this helps, I highly recommend it.
