Garmin Vivo

I just got one and am wondering how calories burned are calculated and how I should log it? Is it on top of my BMR? Do you find that it's an accurate burn? It seems like it's quite overestimated to me, unless it's on top of BMR and then I think I might just add 1/2 of the calories burned to compensate for already existing daily activity. Thanks!

It records calories burned throughout the day including BMR. My husband works for Garmin fitness and is looking up some additional info, but it's an algorithm based on your user profile and steps throughout the day unless you're using it with a heart rate monitor.

Awesome, thanks - great info! So when I record calories, I'll back out BMR plus some to be conservative.

I think I'm going to start making a note about what I burn exactly when I do use the HRM and exercise and record just that as my calories burned.

    I appreciate your help :)

The calories displayed is based on a 24 hour burn and represents your TDEE, BMR + calories burned from your steps.

I'm looking forward to using my Vivo with a HRM. The one I received when I placed my order was DOA right out of the box. Grrr. Hoping Garmin quality isn't that shoddy overall and I just got the rare dud.

I got a vivofit this last weekend and it was dead out of the box too. I suspect crummy batteries. I returned it tonite and the new one fired up just fine.
