Hi folks,
Quick question - any suggestions for how to maximise my muscle gaining potential within the contexts of a calorie deficit?
I know there'll never be the same lean gains as in a surplus, but your knowledge on this subject would be appreciated.
Many thanks!

Sorry Ed, the only way you're going to get muscle gain in a deficit is if you're totally new to it or returning after a long break.
You CAN make good strength gains though:)
A small surplus can achieve a slow recomp but you'd be much better off in a larger calorie surplus (say 500, as you're male) if you're looking to add muscle.

No personal experience with this, but I've heard of people who are not new gaining a small amount of muscle and losing fat on a deficit. Honestly, I believe it's all about how much bodyfat one has, how well one trains and recovers, and the protein intake/nutrition.
Honestly, you'd be better off at maintenance intake if you wanted to try to recomp...not a deficit.0
