How do you log a cardio class?

Maybe a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway...

Using Zumba as an example... if a Zumba class is 60 minutes long, but you do 5 minutes of warming up and 5 minutes of cooling down, do you log 50 minutes of Zumba + 10 minutes of stretching? Or do you just log 60 minutes of Zumba?

Personally I do not count stretching, but if the class has a warm up and cool down where you are still having to do moves then it should count. Thankfully I use a HRM and exercise watch so I can use it for the cals I burn. hope that helps.

Thanks. I might knock it down to 50 minutes, just to be sure. I had a near-pefect week and didn't lose any weight. So, either, I've made an error in measuring my food, or over-estimated my calorie burn. Since Zumba is new this week, I'm thinking that's it.
    Thanks for your feedback.
  • If Zumba is new, it could be water weight too. I personally only log like 30 min if my class is 50 + 10 stretching. To be sure I don't overestimate. I'll be getting an hrm soon so I won't need to anymore. Good luck :)

With me, if a Zumba class is 60 minutes long, I would log in 55 effective minutes. Also, I do not use the Zumba aerobic database entry. I use the generic dance data base entry to log my Zumba time... The Zumba calories burn formula provided by MyFitnessPal.com overestimates calorie burn.

I knock off 5-10 minutes to account for warm-up and cool down. I'd rather under report than over report.

Re calorie count for Zumba in the database, I think it's accurate for an extremely vigorous class. I've worn a heart monitor in mine and the number was the same as what FP said. We move very fast and have lots of jumping and deep squats every class. But my former Zumba class was much easier and slower paced. Probably half the burn.
