Hi there. Can anyone offer me some advice?
I've been using this app for two weeks. My calorie goal is 1200 a day. I'm having approx 1000 a day. I have started power walking and this week walked 26 miles. I'm not drinking the sodas, cut alcohol to a minimum and I'm making sure I don't exceed any of the targets given for each day (I.e. Sodium intake, carbs etc). I drink 5 bottles of water a day too. I log absolutely everything I eat. Yet I've managed to put 4lbs in in just two weeks!! Can anyone offer any advice as to where I could be going wrong?

First off, unless you are very short (under 5ft), already slim, and sedentary...1000 calories isn't enough. Even 1200 may be too low. However, if you truly were eating 1000 for 2 weeks you would not gain weight, so...
Are you measuring and weighing all of your food? (Measure liquids, weigh solids, yes, it matters, a LOT). If you aren't, I can almost guarantee you are eating more calories than you think you are. It's been well documented that even nutritionists and dietitians greatly underestimate portion sizes when they don't weigh/measure.
If you are truly, absolutely eating only 1000 calories a day and gaining weight, and that happens for another couple of weeks, go see a Dr.0 -
Yes, weigh everything! And weight in grams not oz.0

Agree - make sure that you are getting correct portions. Increase your water as well - if you are not taking in enough water your body will hold the water it has and it will show as weight - you should drink at least 8-9 glasses of water a day. You might have to increase your calories to see weight loss (not major but at least to 1200). If you are doing lots and your body thinks its not going to get fuel it will hold the food it gets in case it needs it - at least to a point.
I suggest letting MFP give you the guide lines for a week - meaning it might say that you need a 1600 calorie diet - actually do this amount and see if it will help also.
Feel free to add me - I have had struggles with portions so I measure things out now. It has worked for me. I also exercise daily. Don't worry you will figure this out!0 -
Sounds like you eat to eat quite a bit more than 1000 cal/day!! Even 1200 is low. You're supposed to eat calories you lose through exercise back; eat more food You don't look like you need to lose a lot of weight, so you really should't try to lose 2 lbs a week. Aim for 0.5 to 1 lb a week and enjoy life!:flowerforyou:0

I agree. You need to eat more.. Great job on all you have been doing. Keep up the good work. I know 2 weeks feels like a long time but I always think of it like this. I didn't gain all this weight in a week (or Two) so I have to allow my body a chance to get rid of it. Keep up the good work
If you aren't losing anything after increasing your food intake I would talk to your Doctor. Good luck girl!0 -
Thanks everyone. This information is really handy. I'm going to take it all on board and keep up with exercise and report back next week. One thing for sure I haven't been doing is weighing everything gram for gram. I've been guesstimating but even so, I was 4000 calories under what I should have eaten so I doubt I got it that wrong! Will try upping my calories a little.0
