First of all hello, and now for my introduction: My name is Jim I am a 41 year old very obese male. I currently weigh 386 lbs at 5 foot 4 inches tall. I have 3 girls which is one of the reasons I want to lose this weight, I am tired of not being able to keep up with them. I am engaged to a wonderful woman that I know loves me no matter what, but has said numerous times I need to lose weight to be able to stick around (breathing sense). One of the secondary things I miss with my weight gain is the loss of the ability to do everyday things other couples do. I lose my breath easily (thus tend to give up quicker), lose my stamina (another wall), finally I am just sick and tired of always being tired no matter how much sleep I get.
I have several methods on how I am going to achieve my goal this time (which is to lose 195Lbs.) 1. is diet, to be honest I just sneaked out at 11:40pm to get a sandwich and jalapeño poppers! That stops now end of story, I need to get my eating schedule corrected no more waiting until 3 pm to eat and then eating into the night! First meal will now be eaten within 30 minutes of getting up. 2. I pay for a Y pass, it is going to get used, I live in Ohio so outside exercise is somewhat limited to in winter with my size. 3. I have spent too much money on exercise games and dvd's to not use the stupid things, who knows maybe I will find something I can do that doesn't make my body feel like it's coming apart.
It is time for me to shrug my slug outlook and start this journey with a burst of energy!

Good for you! This site is fantastic!! Your girls and bride, will love the healthier you! One thing that has really helped me to stay focused it to join a challenge. It keeps me accountable. Another thing that has helped is finding an exercise routine, that I love. Right now, I do Leslie Sansone Walk at Home dvd's (also, a challenge going on right now on facebook), but it's the first exercise routine, that I've found that doesn't cause me pain. Yes, the first week or so, I ached because of the new activity, but it was pain do to using muscles, that weren't getting used, not because I felt like I needed knee replacement surgery. You'll find alot of support here, it's a great place to be! Also, read the community threads, about nutrition, success, and fitness, it is really motivating to hear what is working for other people. Good luck on your journey!!0

Good luck on your journey! It starts with your first step. Don't get discouraged...I would also get a sleep study done, you may need a c-pap machine.0

Good luck on your journey! You have taken a step in the right direction by joining this site! As far as getting winded fast and feeling like your not able to do things, it will all come in time. You have to start slow especially if it has been a long time since you have done this type of activity. Even if you start with just 20 minutes a day for a week and then bump it to 30 and so on. Anything is better than nothing and its all a start! MFP is a wonderful place where everyone is here for the same reason, their health. Everyone is sooo supportive and motivating. Its not going to be easy but it IS going to be worth it! Just hang in there and remember if you fall off the wagon just get back up and continue your journey. Everyone has their slip ups, we wouldnt be human if we didnt. You cant dwell on mistakes or it will take you down. If you ever need any advice or anything POST POST POST because there is a wealth of information out there between allll the people that are members of the site. The only stupid question is the one you dont ask! Congrats on your first step to a new healthier you and good luck!!0

I'm so glad you joined MyFitnessPal. This is a great site with tons of support. I agree to start slow and work into a routine that really works for you. I have a friend doing this with me that is close to your size and she's concentrating on just getting her eating habits under control first before she starts an exercise regimen. It's a lot at first and I think that a significant drop in caloric intake linked with lots of extra activity can set you up for failure. So take it as you feel comfortable. The key is to stay on it and ANYTHING you can do to help with that will be a benefit in the long run. To me, it's not a race, it's a marathon. Complete, don't compete. I've got my eye on the finishing line and if I have to take a little detour, so be it. If I have to take a slower route, well.... at least I'm still at it. It's so great to have you and I wish you all the success that you so obviously deserve, not just for your daughters and your bride, but for yourself!0
